After 23 seasons, Sam Houston coach announces retirement

HUNTSVILLE, Texas -- Sam Houston State football coach Ron Randleman announced his retirement Sunday, a day after the Bearkats lost in the semifinals of the Division I-AA playoffs.
With an overall record of 219-166-6, Randleman was third among active I-AA coaches in victories before his retirement. The 62-year-old was 132-124-3 in 23 years at Sam Houston, including 11-3 this season.
Sam Houston's season ended Saturday with a 34-13 loss to Montana, which will face James Madison this week for the national championship.
Randleman coached at William Penn and Pittsburg State before coming to Sam Houston.
