Brockport Falls at #2 Rowan, 22-0

October 29 , 2005

GLASSBORO, NJ – The SUNY Brockport defense limited Rowan University to three field goals and a touchdown through the first three quarters and gave up a late touchdown as the Profs won a 22-0 decision Saturday afternoon at John Page Field in New Jersey.

John Walther ( Dansville, NY/Dansville) led the Brockport (3-5) defense with a season-high 15 tackles, seven for lost yardage, including a sack for a seven-yard loss. He also blocked an extra point attempt.

The Golden Eagle offense, however, managed just 165 yards including only 23 on the ground. Freshman quarterback Zack Luke ( Cambridge, NY/ Cambridge) completed 13-of-41 passes and was intercepted five times.

After a scoreless first quarter, Rowan (7-0) scored on a 13-yard pass but the extra point was blocked giving the Profs a 6-0 lead.

Rowan put together two more drives before the half ended with both resulting in field goals. Matias Spahn converted kicks of 35 and 31 yards out for make the score 12-0 at half time.

Late in the third quarter, Rowan added three more points on a Spahn 22 yard field goal to take a 15-0 lead.

The final Rowan touchdown came on a 2-yard run after a Luke interception deep in the Brockport end of the field.

Brockport turned the ball over six times with five interceptions and a fumble. Rowan scored 10 points off the Brockport turnovers.

Brian Wise ( Newfane, NY/Newfane) was the top Brockport runner with 27 yards on 10 carries. Wise also had four catches for 28 yards and 24 return yards.

The Golden Eagles will play on the road again next weekend with a 1 p.m. game at The College of New Jersey.
