Jerry Kill released from hospital; will not coach Saturday's game against Indiana Sta
Oct. 21, 2005
CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University football coach Jerry Kill was released from the hospital Friday but will not be on the sidelines Saturday when the Salukis play at Indiana State.
Kill suffered a seizure during last week's game with Illinois State and has been seeing a specialist this week in St. Louis, who treats seizure disorders.
"We feel confident that Jerry's received the best of care," Saluki athletics director Paul Kowalczyk said. "He's feeling much better, and we're eager to get him back on the sidelines."
In Kill's absence Saturday, defensive coordinator Tracy Claeys will serve as the acting head coach. Both Claeys and offensive coordinator Matt Limegrover will work from the coaching booth in the press box, while co-defensive coordinator Tom Matukewicz will communicate via a headset on the sideline.
The Salukis have a short week upcoming as they prepare to face #1-ranked Western Kentucky on Thursday night in a nationally televised game on ESPNU. No decision has been made on whether Kill will coach in that game.
