LOGAN, Utah - Utah State freshman tailback Keith Gilliam has left school to return to his home in Kilgore, Texas, it was announced by Aggie head coach Brent Guy on Friday.
Gilliam withdrew from school for personal reasons and is expected to enroll at Kilgore Junior College according to Guy.
"We were sad to see Keith leave," Guy said. "We made our best efforts to keep him here."
Gilliam came to Utah State as a highly touted running back this August. As a senior at Kilgore High School he earned Texas 4A Offensive Player of the Year honors as he rushed for 2,775 yards and 27 touchdowns in 16 games.
Gilliam was fourth on the USU depth chart behind Ryan Bohm, Marcus Crawford and Chris Forbes.
