Sept. 2, 2005

Youngstown, Ohio - Robert Minnie swatted down a pair of kick attempts by hosting Youngstown State but the hosting NCAA Division I-AA Penguins had more than enough firepower to subdue their Division II brethren.

YSU defeated SRU by a 44-14 margin Thursday night to record its 10th win in as many meetings with The Rock.

Corey Manfull scored on a one-yard run in the final minute of the first half to account for The Rock's first points.

The final Rock points came when Colin Golden caught a seven-yard TD toss from Nate Crookshank early in the final period.

YSU outgained The Rock by a 417-236 margin in total offense behind a 287-yard rushing effort.

The Rock will go in search of its first win of the season on Sept. 10 when it hosts Shepherd (W. Va.) in the home opener, a 7 p.m. game on Bob DiSpirito Field at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.

Pregame festivities will include the induction of the Class of 2005 into the SRU Athletic Hall of Fame. Those ceremonies will start at 3:30 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room of the University Union on the SRU campus.
