Rock football falls to Shepherd 24-7

Slippery Rock, Pa. - The Rock football team wasted no time jumping on the scoreboard, scoring a touchdown on their first drive on a 45 yard pass from Nate Crookshank to Paul Favers with 13:06 remaining in the first quarter. But four Rock turnovers proved costly throughout the game, with the Shepherd coming away with a 24-7 win.
The Rock defense held the visiting Rams scoreles until late in the second quarter when Dervon Wallace scored on a four yard touchdown run. Shepherd would score again with three seconds left in the half, on a one yard touchdown run by Wallace.
The Rock didn't fare much better in the second half, with Shepherd scoring a field goal late in the third quarter and tacking on an additional touchdown off of a Crookshank interception with five minutes remaining in the game.
The Rock was led by sophomore running back Corey Manfull. Manfull rushed for 123 yards on 19 carries, averaging 6.3 yards per carry for the game.
Crookshank finished the game 8 of 21 for 91 yards passing and two interceptions. The Rock receivers were led by Favers, who hauled in four passes for 58 yards.
Defensively, The Rock was led by redshirted junior Brandon Rakszawski, who recorded 11 solo tackes and three assited tackles.
Senior linebacker Jerome Whiting also tallied eight tackes for the game, while senior lineman Robert Minnie blocked two field goal attempts and recorded three tackles.
The Rock will have a two week layoff before it faces off against PSAC rival Lock Haven at home on September 24th. Game time is slated for 6:00 p.m.
