SEATTLE -- Washington hired former Oklahoma State head coach Bob Simmons as special teams coordinator Wednesday.

Linebackers coach Chris Tormey will also become the Huskies recruiting coordinator, coach Tyrone Willingham said.

Simmons was the Cowboys' head coach from 1995-2000, compiling a 30-38 record. He was the Big 12 Conference coach of the year in 1997 after leading Oklahoma State to an 8-4 record and a berth in the Alamo Bowl.

After working as a consultant for the Big 12 in 2001, Simmons joined Willingham's staff at Notre Dame and spent the last three seasons coaching linebackers.

Simmons is the fifth member of Willingham's staff at Notre Dame to be hired at Washington.

The Huskies begin spring practice March 31.
