SUNY Brockport Claims Top Spot in Pre-Season ACFC Coaches Poll

August 30, 2004

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. - Atlantic Central Football Conference newcomer SUNY Brockport was a unanimous selection for 2004 ACFC title, as selected by the leagues coaches.

The Golden Eagles were chosen first on all five ballots as each team was not allowed to vote for their own squad. Brockport enters the season riding a streak of five straight NCAA Tournament appearances.

Two-time conference runnerup Salisbury University was second in the poll, while two-time conference champion Frostburg State University was third. Wesley College was picked fourth, as newcomer Buffalo State College was selected fifth and The Apprentice School was selected sixth.

The 2004 ACFC season opens up this weekend with five games all starting at 1 p.m.:

Kean University at Apprentice School
Buffalo State College at Robert Morris College
Salisbury University at Catholic University
SUNY Brockport at Cortland State
Ferrum College at Wesley College
ACFC Pre-Season Poll (first place votes in parentheses)

SUNY Brockport 25 (5)
Salisbury Univ. 18 (1)
Frostburg State Univ. 17
Wesley College 15
Buffalo State College 10
Apprentice School 5
