Suny Brockport Football Loses At Salisbury

Golden Eagles downed in Atlantic Central Football Conference debut

SALISBURY, MD. -- Junior quarterback Dustin Johnson rushed for 159 yards and one touchdown and added 95 yards passing and two more touchdowns through the air to lead Salisbury to a 46-21 Atlantic Central Football
Conference victory over SUNY Brockport. The Sea Gulls (2-0 overall, 1-0 ACFC) seized control of the game by outscoring Brockport 23-0 in the second quarter. Brockport falls to 1-1 overall, and 0-1 after playing in the school's ACFC debut.

With the score tied at 7-7 after one quarter, Salisbury scored on the first play of the second quarter as Johnson connected on a 28-yard TD pass to WR Mark Higgins, capping an eight-play, 80-yard drive. Sophomore RB Francis Bryant extended the lead to 21-7 with a five-yard touchdown run three minutes later.

Junior Brock Boland added a 37-yard field goal on Salisbury's next possession, pushing the lead to 24-7. Johnson then capped the first half scoring with a 13-yard touchdown run, putting the Sea Gulls ahead 30-7 at halftime. Johnson registered the eighth 100-yard rushing game of his career and amassed his third highest single-game rushing total
ever.

Boland's second field goal of the game (28 yards) and a three-yard TD run by Brockport's Jon Brown (Rochester/Greece Arcadia) accounted for the third quarter scoring as Salisbury carried a 33-14 lead into the fourth quarter. The Sea Gulls sandwiched fourth quarter touchdown runs by fullbacks John Hunt (seven yards) and Leroy Satchell (five yards) around a 44-yard TD pass from Brockport QB AJ Covella (Rochester/Spencerport) to WR Matt McCormick (Peru/Peru Central) to account for the final 46-21 margin.

The Salisbury defense forced four turnovers and recorded five sacks in the game. Chris Barr paced the defense with 10 tackles, while Brad DeHaven and Billy Leinemann added eight tackles each. DeHaven registered four of SU's five sacks and forced two fumbles.

Salisbury finished with 334 yards rushing and 429 yards in total offense. Junior RB Anthony Johnson added 81 yards rushing and Satchell finished with 71 for the Sea Gulls.

QB Bob Darnley (North Tonawada/Niagara Wheatfield) led Brockport with 111 yards passing and one touchdown. Covella finished with 92 yards throwing. Brown led Brockport's rushing game with 26 yards. McCormick led the Brockport receivers with six catches for 99 yards. LB John Walther (Dansville) led the Golden Eagles with 11 tackles, including six solo stops.
