PULLMAN, Wash. -- Washington State quarterback Josh Swogger broke a bone in his right foot, ending his sophomore season.
The injury will require surgery, Washington State athletic department spokesman Rod Commons said Monday.
Swogger's backup is freshman Alex Brink, who played in two games this season, completing 13-of-25 pass attempts for 278 yards, a touchdown and an interception.
Freshman Gary Rogers, who hoped to redshirt this season, will be Brink's backup.
Swogger already was playing with a partially torn ligament in his right knee and a sore ankle.
He completed 91 of 193 pass attempts for 1,283 yards, with 13 touchdown passes and seven interceptions. He ranks seventh in the Pac-10 in passing, averaging 208.7 yards per game.
