Top CB prospect might make trip to WVU

Five-star CB prepares for first official

Five-star cornerback Darrin Walls has scheduled four official visits with Pittsburgh, Michigan, Florida and Notre Dame. The 6-foot-0, 172-pounder with 4.4-second speed is staying in town for an official with the Panthers this weekend. What does Walls hope to see from Wannstedt's program?

Walls is taking in an official to Pittsburgh this weekend.
"I really am going to basically see how the game atmosphere is with the new staff and coach Wannstedt," he said. "I'll also be looking at the campus and in the game I'm going to see how the defense and cornerbacks play."

The No. 24 prospect in the country is still leaving the door open for a fifth official visit.

"I'm thinking West Virginia, Penn State and Southern Cal are leading for the visit," he said. "I'm not sure if and when I'll take it. I might not even take a fifth one."

Walls plans to make a decision sometime in October.

The No. 1 cornerback in the country kicked off the season last week.

"We won our game 28-12, but I didn't play that much because I had a bruised shoulder," he said. "I only carried the ball twice for 20 yards and didn't play any on defense. My shoulder feels fine now and I felt good practicing this week and I'll play a lot this week.

"We play one of our biggest rivals in Gateway. The game doesn't really count for anything, but it's a big rivalry game and it's all about pride. This season we're going to be really good and I think we'll do well."

Walls was named first team all-conference and first team all-Class AAAA as a junior. The No. 2 player in Pennsylvania accounted for 575 yards of offense and eight touchdowns. He added 67 tackles, 16 deflections and six interceptions on defense.
