FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Top-ranked Southern California will be without receiver Fred Davis in the Orange Bowl after the freshman didn't make it back from a Christmas break in time for the team's trip to Florida.
USC coach Pete Carroll said made the announcement Wednesday after the Trojans' first practice since arriving for the bowl game, to be played Tuesday against No. 2 Oklahoma.
The Trojans were given Christmas weekend off before reporting back to practice Monday in Los Angeles. They flew to Florida on Tuesday.
Davis, a 6-foot-4, 215-pounder from Toledo, Ohio, played in four games this season, catching four passes for 30 yards.
