Petty Enterprises might be on the verge of a turnaround.

Kyle Petty had the third-fastest lap in the opening practice for the Daytona 500 on Saturday and new teammate Bobby Labonte wasn't far behind.

Although it might not mean a whole lot, it was a good sign for a NASCAR team that hasn't won a race since 1999.

"This is just another step toward what we want to do at Petty Enterprises," said Robbie Loomis, the team's vice president of racing operations.
