    Re: Lakers

JP, Howard is good -- no doubt. Very good. But I'm glad the Lakers WON!

Lakers fan here (sorry I hadn't posted). Lakers fan since the days of Rudy LaRusso, Elgin Baylor, Gail Goodrich, Gene Wiley, Keith Erickson, Wilt / Stilt, Happy Hairston, and of course, the GREAT Jerry West.

Lucius Allen. Kareem Abdul-Jabar. Player - coach Pat Riley. Jamaal Wilkes, Norm Nixon, Michael Cooper, James Worthy, Bob McAdoo; "our own superman" Kurt Rambis ... and "our own magic" Earvin Johnson.

    Scott. Green. Thompson. Divac.

Shaq. Fox. Fisher. Horry, more champions.

Gasol, Kobe B., Odom, Ariza, Coach Jackson and Co.

    Re: Lakers

Bill Russell hands out the MVP trophy because it's named after him. Which I understand but seriously. A Boston Celtic handing a Laker the MVP trophy?!
Not a good decision by the NBA.

If you get a chance to see the replay of Russell handing the trophy to Kobe it's a complete joke.

Yes, a rather disappointing Russell Trophy "ceremony"!

One would have expected at least some type of congratulation in recognizing the NBA Finals MVP, especially by the man whose name that trophy is known by ... particularly being a Celtic.

Instead, nothing. Absolutely nothing. NBA should have prepared that better.

so what do you guys think about swapping Artest for Ariza? I know Artest is a better player, but I'm not looking forward to the drama.

While Artest may be better now, he is on the downhill side of his career. Ariza has gotten better each year. I think it was a mistake to let Ariza go...

There was scuttle butt about Ariza's agent playing games with the amount of money his client wanted. It sounded like Ariza's agent blew it by trying to be to cute. I to agree that losing Ariza and replacing him with Artest is not what I wanted but it's a wait see as far as next season goes.

Hmmm...interesting info. I'll keep this in mind next season. BTW speaking of next season, the guy I'm worried about is Lamar Odom. The Lakers are just going to have to belly up to the bar and pay this guy. I thought Lamar's play the entire playoff season was awesome.

Besides do we really want L. Walton, Vuyavich or Adam Morrison as our 6th man?? In the name of Michael Cooper, HELL NO!!!

    WHAT SAY YE?

Thanks for the stroll down Memory Lane, RealRam. Well do I remember listening to Chick Hearn broadcasting Laker games on an old, old transistor radio that I had to twist and turn to get any decent sound from. Yep, those were the days. Chick was the only announcer that could make a preseason game against the Little Sisters of the Poor sound like the 7th game of the Finals.

Oh, and don't forget to add Jimmy McMillian to your list. He used to have one of the best baseline shots you'd ever seen; well, at least until Jamaal Wilkes came along!!

Still remember Keith Erickson calling Jamaal's 20 foot bombs from the corner "his layup."

    Re: Lakers

WOW ur all old . My earliest basketball memories are The Show Time Lakers vs Birds Celtics. Majic was so sweet.

What a great year this was to be a Laker fan. I think Kobe has cemented his legacy no matter what happens. Jordans still the greatest with Majic a close second. I do think Kobe is getting in the conversation though. In 10 years though I have a feeling we will all be saying Lebron is the greatest of all time he is a freak show of talent.

I think it was fitting Bill Russell gave Kobe the trophy two of the most hated superstars in the history of the game.
