UFC vs Pride Fighting
Does anyone watch this other than myself?
If so, which do you prefer?
I prefer the UFC, this sport is growing very fast and rumor has it that ESPN might start covering it.

Re: UFC vs Pride Fighting
I have watched UFC since the beginning and am a huge fan. I've watched all the Ultimate Fighter reality shows, nearly every Fight Night on tv, and most of the PPVs. Pride Fighting I've watched maybe once.

Re: UFC vs Pride Fighting
I enjoy watching UFC, but I don't want to shell out the money for the PPV. I'd be willing to split the bill with someone, but it seems I'm really the only one I know who's interested in watching (and more importantly, paying for) it. TUF and UFN are godsends for me. I'd love for ESPN to start covering it.
Haven't watched any Pride save for the clips on youtube and other websites.

Re: UFC vs Pride Fighting
The UFC just brought over a couple of guys from Pride. Rampage Jackson and Cro Cop. Rampage actually defeated The ICEMAN in pride a few years ago.
Both of the newcomers are fighting this Saturday night on PPV.

Re: UFC vs Pride Fighting
I watch UFC whenever I get the chance... SPIKE TV carries a lot of the older fights. Pride I have seen but haven't watched much.
My youngest brother gets the UFC PPV's when Liddell fights as he is a local and has helped in the training of the Police Department where my youngest brother works and at the Sherrif's Department where another brother works.
I did some work at John Hackleman's training facility (installed the heavy bags) called "The Pit" where some of Liddell's training takes place. Lidell and I use the same chiropractor and I have met him there.
Both Hackleman and Liddell have enoug self-confidence that they are relatively quiet when dealing with the general public, in my experiences with them.

Re: UFC vs Pride Fighting
UFC no doubt. What about that kick that Rashad Evans laid down on Salmon the other nite. Salmon went limp quickly (no offense AlphaRam). Here is a pic of the KO move.

Re: UFC vs Pride Fighting
One Pride Fighting clip I have watched is this:
Warning, not for the feint of heart.
Found this tonight...some killer KOS in this clip...those Pride guys get crazy and really beat the hell out of each other.

Re: UFC vs Pride Fighting
I watch alot of the UFC. Both groups have some real tough guys. I wonder who is the toughest right now?
Iceman?
Tim Silvia?
George St. Pierre?
Cro Cop (formerly of Pride
Rampage Jackson (formerly of Pride)
All ufc guys
Fedor Melienko?
Vanderlei Silva?
Pride guys
The thing about Pride is that they have these Grand Prix where are there aren't any weight classes. Like the old UFC days. Makes it alot more defining as far as who is the best.

Re: UFC vs Pride Fighting
UFC has just announced that April 21, 2007 they are scheduled for the U.K..
1st time back to the U.K. since 2002. The bouts will be fought at Manchester's MEN Arena. The fight card isn't set yet.
I've been to live UFC events...It's much better on t.v. or ppv.

This will be on Spike T.V.
Posted: Mar.12, 2007, 4:45 pm EDTJust two weeks ago, The Associated Press, a news organization that has sparsely reported on the explosive growth of the UFC over the years, released the blockbuster news that UFC surpassed World Wrestling Entertainment and equaled boxing's premier broadcaster HBO when it came to pay-per-view dollars.
And while the recent feel-good story of Randy Couture's return to the top will likely only help UFC's marketing and bottom-line, they won't capitalize on the momentum just yet.
NBCSports.com has confirmed through a source close to the organization that UFC 70 will be broadcast on SpikeTV. The event will be shown on tape-delay on April 21 beginning at 9 pm ET. An official statement should come Tuesday.

Liddell fights as he is a local and has helped in the training of the Police Department
|
This is becoming more and more common in the world of law enforcement. Federal agencies, state agencies, county, local and everything in between have been training in brazilian jiu-jitsu and ground combat over the past 6 or 7 years. About a decade ago, NYPD did a study of physical confrontations with criminals and found out the vast majority of altercations went to the ground within the first 5 seconds. Unfortunately, the fighting style that most law enforcement trained in (vertical combat) was vastly different than the skill set needed for ground defense. Therefore, brazilian jiu-jitsu became popular among police. As UFC and other MMA formulas have grown, agencies have started contracting with these fighters and their trainers to hone the ground combat skills of the police training.
Something to think about next time anyone decides to take on a cop.

Re: UFC vs Pride Fighting
I've never seen Pride. I've been following UFC for a number of years, but I've been kind of out of the loop for the last year or so. I liked Matt Hughes, Diego Sanchez, and young Ken Shamrock among others.
