Re: 2009 ClanRam Mod Mock Draft - Selection Thread

With the 13th pick in the 2nd round of the 2009 NFL Draft the New York Giants select:

    Derrick Williams WR Penn State

With the loss of Plaxico Burress and Amani Toomer, the Giants have to address that need and Williams has speed and upside. He can play WR and ST. He has a tendency to drop a few balls, but the Giants don't have a choice at this pick

With the 46th pick, the Houston Texans select.........Western Michigan, SS, Louis Delmas

The Safety corp for the Texans is less than spectacular and beginning to age. A solid run stopping safety like Delmas to go with MLB Laurinaitis will be a nice day 1 pick up for the Texans Defense.

With the 47th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft the New England Patriots select:

    Sean Smith (cb/s) Utah

The 6"3" 213 lb Sean Smith can play either CB or Safety. With Rodney Harrison nearing the end of his career. (2009 is still a question mark as far as Harrison is concerned) Smith will be moved to Safety.

With the 49th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos select:

    Robert Ayers, DE, Tennessee
The Broncos have to be thrilled to see Ayers, who some have projected as a first rounder, available at this point in the draft. They already know that Ayers looks good in orange, but the real key here is his ability to fit as either a DE or an OLB in their new 3-4 defense. This might not be a match made in Heaven, but its certainly a Mile High Match.

With the 49th pick of the NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears select...

MICHAEL JOHNSON - DE - GEORGIA TECH

No one on the Bears' roster had more than six sacks, so Chicago needs to find someone who can get to the passer. Johnson has Top Five talent but just can't put it all together consistently. He'll be a steal for Chicago if they can get him to play well on a regular basis.

With the 50th pick of the 2009 NFL draft, the Cleveland Browns select...

    LeSean McCoy, RB, Pittsburgh

Eric Mangini recently stated that Jamal Lewis was one of the Browns players that he "liked". This does nothing to change the fact that Jamal Lewis is one of the slower running backs in the NFL. Cleveland has not had a strong running game for some time, and the addition of McCoy with his 1488 yards and 21 TD's could change that. He has good hands and shows the ability to be slippery. McCoy is the new blood the Browns need for the ground game.

With the 51st pick of the 2009 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select...

DUKE ROBINSON - OG - OKLAHOMA

Kyle Kosier turns 31 this year, has two years left on his deal, and is coming off of injured reserve. Robinson is a stud blocker who should help the Cowboys' offense in both the running and passing department. Expect Marion Barber and Felix Jones to be quite happy about adding a nasty mauler like Robinson to their line.

With the 52nd pick in the NFL Draft, the New York Jets select:

    Wiiliam Moore S Mizzou

Jets need help at S and Moore provides it. A big hitter who plays the run very well. Jets need someone to pair up with Kerry Rhodes and even though Moore fell off his senior year, he's still an excellent talent who was rated by some scouts as a 1st round pick. To find Moore here in the 2nd round is great news for the Jets.

With the 53rd pick, the Eagles select........So. Miss., TE, Shawn Nelson

The Eagles can use help at TE and Nelson may be the #2 all-around TE. Athletic, good hands, and a willing blocker.

With the 54th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft the Minnesota Vikings select:

    D. J. Moore (CB) Vanderbilt

The Vikings need help in the return game and also need to add depth at the CB position behind Antoine Winfield and Cedric Griffin. D. J. Moore was one of the most versatile players available at this pick.

With the 55th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons select:

    Patrick Chung, SS, Oregon

With Lawyer Milloy getting up there in years, the Falcons need to start planning for the future at this position. Chung is a sure tackler and should be ready to start within his first two years in the league.

With the 56th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins select...

    Juaquin Iglesias, WR, Oklahoma

The Dolphins need to find another capable starting wide receiver to play opposite Ted Ginn Jr. Iglesias compliments Ginn's speed by giving the Dolphins an excellent route runner who can also contribute as a blocker for the Dolphins' running offense.

With the 57th pick in the 2009 NFL draft, the Baltimore Ravens select...

    Rashad Johnson, Safety, Alabama

The Ravens need a safety who can grab the ball, cover the recievers, and might make it as a playmaker. Rashad Johnson has just what the Ravens need. Had it not been for an unfortunate off-the-field incident last year, Johnson might have gone higher, but I still consider this a reasonable pick at #57.

With the 58th pick of the 2009 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots select...

ANDRE BROWN, RB, NORTH CAROLINA STATE

For whatever reason, Laurence Maroney hasn't become the featured back New England likely expected him to be. The Patriots had four running backs last season with 70 carries or more individually, led by Sammy Morris' 156 rushing attempts. This team is in need of a feature back, and Andre Brown is a hard runner who knows how to hit the hole and can help New England pick up blitzes in the passing game.

With the 59th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft the Carolina Panthers select

    Evander "Ziggy" Hood DT Missouri

Wow, the Panthers need depth and help at DT as they are starting Damione Lewis at DT so to have Ziggy Hood, a first round talent, fall to them here was truly a surprise.
