Re: 2014 Mod Mock Draft *THE SELECTION THREAD*

With the 45th pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions select:

Kevin Benjamin, Wide Receiver, Florida State

Even with the addition of golden Tate, (who probably benefited from Russell's scrambling ability),
Detroit is still looking for a complement to, (and someone to take a little of the pressure off of) Calvin Johnson.

Devonte Adams from Fresno State was in play here, and both benefited from great college quarterbacks, but even with some of his concerns, (work ethic and possible weight gain), Benjamin just has to much potential to pass up at this point in the draft.

With the 46th pick, the Pittsburgh Steelers select....

    Dominque Easley, DT/DE, Florida

There's a few issues along the Steelers front line right now. Heyward is coming around, but Hood split town. They have a couple of NTs and there's talk of having to move one outside. I think Easley now lines up opposite Heyward to solidify that line. Before his injury, he was truly dominant on that Gator line. If he comes back full bore from the injury, he could do a lot to help that Steeler front line get back to where it belongs.

With the 47th pick, the Dallas Cowboys select ...

    Deone Buchannon, S, Washington State

Even though they're ageing as a unit, there's no question that Tony Romo and the Cowboys offense can still get it done. Dez Bryant is as explosive as they come, Witten is one of the biggest and best, and Demarco Murray is a bit of a human joystick. On the other side of the ball, there are problems everywhere. Problems up front, problems at linebacker, and problems in the secondary. They could do well to address any position here - although I reckon they'd be pissed to see Easley come off the board one selection earlier. I've given them Buchannon, who's a rangy, underrated safety with first round measurables. Simply, he's a true football player on a team that could use more than one.

With the 48th pick in the 2014 Mod Mock Draft, the Baltimore Ravens select:

    Cody Latimer, WR, Indiana

Joe Flacco missed the security blanket of a big, sure handed WR when Anquan Boldin left. Latimer provides many of the same qualities with good size (6'3, 215) and arguably the best hands in the draft.

With the 49th pick, the New York Jets select...

    JIMMIE WARD
    S - Northern Illinois

It's rather surprising that Ward is still on the board here; he could slip into the first round. Ward would be a big upgrade over current free safety Antonio Allen, so I don't think it'd take the Jets long to get this pick in.

With the 50th pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins select:

    Morgan Moses, OT - Virginia

Miami doubles up on offensive Lineman after losing 3 starters in the last two years. It was basically a coin toss between Moses and Kouandijo, but Moses has no injury concerns, and a bit more upside.

With the 51st pick the Chicago Bears select...

    Ego Ferguson, DT, LSU

Losing Henry Melton hurt the d-line. They brought in several DEs, and resigned Jay Ratliff, but they still need more of an interior presence. Ferguson is a big, physical, athletic presence that Trestman's defensive staff like on their line.

With the 52nd pick, the Arizona Cardinals select...

    George Uko, DT, USC

Uko's a big body who's also quite versatile. The Cardinals could look at adding a QB like LSU's Zach Mettenberger here, but they wait til the later rounds. Instead, here's Darnell Dockett's heir apparent, who'll find playing time right away in Bruce Arians' D.

With the 53rd pick in the 2014 Mod Mock Draft, the Green Bay Packers select:

    Terrence Brooks, FS, FSU

The Packers need a safety, and are thrilled to see Brooks here, as the dropoff after he's gone is significant. Brooks is a great athlete who has few weaknesses in his game. He's slightly undersized, but makes up for it with speed and leaping ability.

With the 54th pick, the Philadelphia Eagles select...

    ALLEN ROBINSON
    WR - Penn State

The Eagles addressed their need in the secondary earlier, but still need to add more talent to a receiving corps that only features Jeremy Maclin and Riley Cooper. Robinson isn't a speed demon, but has drawn Anquan Boldin comparisons and should be a nice addition to three wide sets as a rookie.

With the 55th pick in the 2014 nFL Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals select:

    Scott Crichton DE, Oregon State

After losing Johnson to Tampa Bay, the Bengals look to bolster their stable with the addition of Crichton.

2014 Mod Mock Draft *THE SELECTION THREAD*-richburg_weston-colorado-state-11-9-13.jpg

Weston Richburg, C, Colorado State - The whiners have a solid line, but their 35-year-old Center, Jon Goodwin, will need to be upgraded. Richburg is, arguably, the best Center in this class.

Analysis to come tomorrow. San Diego needs a corner or something. It's 1AM and I'm going to bed. Goodnight!

With the 58th pick, the New Orleans Saints select...

    Stanley Jean-Baptiste, CB, Nebraska

As the last two picks demonstrate, big CBs are definitely in vogue these days. The Saints will add Jean-Baptiste to a defensive backfield that includes Kenny Vaccaro and FA prize Jairus Byrd.

With the 59th pick, the Indianapolis Colts select...

    GABE JACKSON
    OG - Mississippi State

The Colts traded their first round pick in this year's draft for Trent Richardson and would like to form the identity of a team capable of running the ball when they need to. In order to do that, though, they'll need to improve their talent on the offensive line. Jackson would be a big upgrade at right guard and would help open holes for Richardson on the ground.
