Re: The 2nd Annual ClanRam Round-Table Mock Draft: Discussion Thread
Oakland Raiders have just taken Jamarcus Russell, QB, LSU.
First overall pick--Comments?
I'm not looking forward to my Miami pick...We'll have to wait and see what happens next, but i have my ideas...
Ramwraith is now on the clock for the Detroit Lions. It should be interesting to see what goes down here. Is it Brady Quinn, Gaines Adams, or Joe Thomas? Will RW pull a proverbial rabbit from his hat and select Calvin Johnson?
Re: The 2nd Annual ClanRam Round-Table Mock Draft: Discussion Thread
I took Thomas for Detroit. I have NO DOUBTS this pick will be the first of many traded on day one. If Detroit is forced to stay at the second position they have to go the safe route and take Thomas. This in my mind is the only pick that would make sense without having a lynching in Detroit.

I agree about the trade...but they already acquired George Foster, a starting caliber Tackle from Denver. He was a first rounder back...three years I think. And they have Jeff Backus, another high first rounder on the left side. (it was Backus, right?) Who does he eventually replace on the line?
Also, I'm curious as to what's happened to Brady Quinn? Seems perfect to a) learn from Jon Kitna, a la Carson Palmer and b) Run Mike Martz' offense. Face of the franchise for years to come...
But everyone has their question marks, and it's hard to disagree with Thomas' solidity and overall safety.
Nice pick...this is shaping up to be one helluva draft!
Re: The 2nd Annual ClanRam Round-Table Mock Draft: Discussion Thread
Foster has been a disappointment since being drafted. I think he will be a great back-up but not a starter for a good team. Thomas will move right into that right tackle spot with Backus staying in his natural position. Thomas can play any where, but his strength will come to the outside. Big upgrade! And the safest pick for the Lions. Like I said...they won't be picking there any way.
And by the way...Everyone laughed at me last year for having Tennesee taking Young with the third pick as well.

I love the idea of this thread... but how come you guys can't trade. It would make a more interesting and fun mock I think!!
J. Russell - safe pick for Oakland, as they will undoubtably take him
Thomas - I think they'll opt to trade this pick. But if they keep it I think they might go for Quinn instead.
Re: The 2nd Annual ClanRam Round-Table Mock Draft: Discussion Thread
I can honestly say I have no idea who the Bucs are going to take now. If you put a gun to my head, I wouldn't be able to come up with a name. With Rusell, Thomas and Peterson off the board, where do John Gruden & Co. turn to now?
Re: The 2nd Annual ClanRam Round-Table Mock Draft: Discussion Thread
Maybe a little guy named Calvin Johnson? :)

I don't think the Lions will go with Quinn. Martz believes that he can turn any QB into a great QB and he has the history to back it up. With this in mind I can't see the Lions wasting a high pick on a QB that is not a number 2 type of guy. Then again it is Matt Millen so you never know.

Russell is a safe pick for the Raiders since they do need a QB and they need a big one because he is going to take a pounding behind that offensive line. I truly believe that if the Raiders had a decent o-line that could protect a QB they would go with Walters and pick Calvin Johnson first. Of course this Al Davis we are talking about so anything is possible with him.
Re: The 2nd Annual ClanRam Round-Table Mock Draft: Discussion Thread
Nick I can't post my 4th pick of Calvin Johnson it says server error.
Re: The 2nd Annual ClanRam Round-Table Mock Draft: Discussion Thread
Do your write-up for the pick and PM it to me, then I'll post it.
Re: The 2nd Annual ClanRam Round-Table Mock Draft: Discussion Thread
Ok, my pick is Gaines Adams, but its not letting me post the pick and information in the thread.
Re: The 2nd Annual ClanRam Round-Table Mock Draft: Discussion Thread
Gaines Adams to the Cards? Sounds fair.

I think they're definitely going to look to trade. Calvin Johnson and Joe Thomas are the safest bets, but they've already addressed the o-line to an extent this off-season, and they've got to be skittish about drafting another receiver. I think they go Gaines Adams, seeing as how all the defensive ends on Detroit's current roster contributed a total of 5 sacks last year.
