    Acsention on Mack Helps Rams

Everyone assumes that if Clowney goes #1, the trade value of that #2 to a team like Atlanta at #6 drops.

However, now that Khalil Mack is getting talk about actually being the best player in the draft, he could go first, and if he doesn't, Atlanta, Cleveland, Buffalo, and the Bucs could still be hot to get him, plus a bunch of later teams.

Thinking out of the box, rather than do dozens of mocks that have the Rams taking Robisnon, Matthews, or Watkins at#2, and a CB, S, or WR at 13, I could see the Rams taking mack, even above Clowney second.

Mack in a linebacker in the NFL, and according to Mike Mayock , he "covers like a safety", which means he would be on the field all the time.

With Gregg Williams probably being far more aggressive than Walton, dime backs need not apply. He's gonna bring five or six guys, and some little dime back isn't gonna play, especially if they have a player like Mack at OLB.

The Rams could move him around as a huge weapon.

And unlike Clowney, Mack has no baggage, no big timer coming from college, just a humble, determined stud.

Let's say the Rams get Williams and Dahl back, and Dunbar as a top backup/ST player.

And they add that FS to start.

And maybe they even get Saffold done, or add another veteran backup LT.

Maybe they add a veteran CB.

Now with the draft not having to fill those holes early.

They take Mack second overall, and still can get Lewan or Zach Martin 13th if they really think an OT in rd 1 is a must.

If folks are right about Fisher and O-linemen early, I could see Mack at #2, and then a deal down from 13 to add a second rounder.

Then I can choose a WR, CB, DT, in the low 20s, after that deal down.

Then I end up with guys with big upside, like Snead loves:

    Mack OLB 2nd
    RaShede Hageman DT 20th-23rd
    Jordan Mathews WR 44th
    C. Kovandjio, or Moses OT 52nd-55th

I'm not ruling out a short deal down if a QB or Clowney goes first, if Cleveland wants to hop over Jax for the top QB.

But I don't go so far I don't get Mack still.

Gregg WIlliams will be salivating over the prospect of getting Mack, I guarantee that.

The Rams already have two converted safeties that can stay on the field.

Of the team's current starters, linebacker Alec Ogletree headed to Georgia in 2010 as one of the nation's top safeties. He was the No. 29 overall player in the country that year and had a solid career for the Bulldogs before the Rams made him a first-round pick last season. Like Armstrong, Ogletree also converted to linebacker and is one highly-rated player who has followed that path from high school through the NFL.

I heard John McLain this morning say that Clowney to Houston is unlikely because as they switch to a 3-4 defense under Romeo Crennel they have to figure out how to use JJ Watt and Whitney Mercilus in that defensive scheme. That makes Clowney very unlikely to go #1, unless Houston trades the pick. That could set-up the Mack at #2 if we cannot find a trading partner.

    Go Rams!

    Okay, but...

    1. If he stays on the field on passing downs, who sits?; and
    2. Wouldn't a team taking a guy like Mack in the top 10 do so more because of his potential as a pass rusher, rather than his abilities in coverage?

Maybe so, but I suspect that Brian Schottenheimer and Paul Boudreau will be salivating over Matthews, Robinson and, possibly, Watkins.

I think Williams wins in a fight between the 3. He seems scrappier and willing to do what's necessary. Hair pulling, eye gouging, etc.

Plus, the league has no rules against bounties on coaches.

Dont underestimate Boudreau in a fight. My sources tell me that he has the most effective sleeper hold since the untimely demise of Chief Jay Strongbow.

I really hope Gregg isn't reading this thread.

I fear he may run with this idea and start some kind of underground NFL coach fight club. That guy is a wild card.
