Av's 2010 Rams Draft Board (Version 2.0 - 1/7/10)
Time for an update.
While the Rams have the first pick, its still important to have a draft board to account for the possiblity of a trade (either down from pick 1, or up to get a second first round pick), as well as the chance that a player could fall to selection #33.
1. Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska (Previous Rank: 2)
2. Derrick Morgan,* DE, Georgia Tech (Previous Rank: 3)
3. Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma (Previous Rank: 4)
4. Joe Haden, CB, Florida (Previous Rank: N/A)
5. C.J. Spiller, RB, Clemson (Previous Rank: 7)
6. Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma State (Previous Rank: 8)
7. Eric Berry, S, Tennessee (Previous Rank: 9)
8. Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma (Previous Rank: 6)
9. Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame (Previous Rank: 5)
10. Terrence Cody, DT, Alabama (Previous Rank 10)
*Undeclared
Comments
With Jake Locker going back to school, Suh slides into the first spot. I doubt he'll move from there. I still like Morgan over McCoy due to his pass rushing abilities. The newest member of my board is Joe Haden, who recently declared. I think he is a potential superstar at the CB spot. I've moved down the QBs, as both have a lot of question marks. With Bradford (who I've now jumped ahead of Clausen), its all about his shoulder. If it checks out and he throws well, he could climb the board. Clausen could go either way for me. If he is as undersized as I suspect he is, he could fall out of my Top 10.Last edited by AvengerRam; -01-07-2010 at 05:57 PM.

I can't recall Av, do you rankings account for team need (ie. certain players being higher or lower on the board depending on if the Rams need that position) or are they strictly based on the prospects and how they grade out?

Re: Av's 2010 Rams Draft Board (Version 2.0 - 1/7/10)
Its based on a combination of the Rams' needs and BPA. At this point, I'm weighing BPA more heavily than needs. However, there are some positions (LT, C, MLB) where the need is low enough that I've excluded players who might be on a pure BPA draft board for the whole league.

Clausen and undersized?
Not sure if absolute size is that important for a QB, Drew Brees is barely 6' (if that) while Jamarcus Russell is 6'4 or so. I think a lot more things go into the equation before dropping a QB based on size. Clausen is over 6' the question is whether he's 6'1 or 6'3. My guess he'll measure something like 6'1.5.

You still have Mount Cody in your top ten. Very interesting. Depending on his showing tonight in the National Championship, where do you think he can move up to? Or maybe even fall down to?

Derrick Morgan wasn't that impressive against Iowa the other night. Bryan Bulaga, who is usually projected as more of an RT prospect than an LT, kept him quiet; I'd hesitate to put him at number two.

Re: Av's 2010 Rams Draft Board (Version 2.0 - 1/7/10)
Agreed. Buluga another top prospect kept him in check, Its always nice to see how top prospects fair against each other. I wouldn't put him at 2, but definately in the top
Speaking about competing against top prospects Joe Hadden Shut down the 2 best senior WRs in the draft in Mardy Gillyard and Brandon Lafell, both didn't get over 45 yards.
Not sure why Claussen fell, when he has only done better since the last board. His height? I don't buy that he had one of the tallest lines in College Football the smallest guy was 6-5 both Tackles were 6-8. Claussen will be listed at 6-2. QBs on the shorter side in the NFL Kurt Warner, Drew Brees, Tony Romo, Aaron Rodgers, Brett Farve, Donavan McNabb all LISTED at 6'2 or under all in the playoffs all pretty successful. You can be successful without being 6-5 you can see that because 7 out of the 12 playoff QBs are 6-2. The toe? He played through it all season shows incredible toughness something Sam Bradford definately can't say. Plus its a toe, not like its a shoulder. They have the tape of all season they know what he can do, even if you need to see more he will throw in April. The more important thing is the interviews were he can really make a difference on his stock, negatively or positively.

Re: Av's 2010 Rams Draft Board (Version 2.0 - 1/7/10)
Actually, apart from Brees, they're all listed at exactly 6'2. If Clausen is 6'2, I would not consider him too small. I'm betting that he's more like 6'0. If I'm right, that would not eliminate him from consideration, but it probably would drop him out of my top 10.
Part of the reason I dropped both QBs is that I'm starting to look at the QB crop as being deeper than I initially thought, and I've seen some good performances from some second and third tier QBs (a distinction that is becoming increasingly blurred). Right now, I'd rank the QB crop as follows:
1. Sam Bradford
2. Jimmy Clausen
3. Colt McCoy (assuming his shoulder injury is minor)
4. Dan LeFevour (very impressed with his GMAC Bowl performance)
5. Tony Pike (less impressed with him after his last two games)
6. Levi Brown (interesting "sleeper" prospect)Last edited by AvengerRam; -01-08-2010 at 10:15 AM.
