Av's Draft Radar (Five/Ten/Ten) - Select From This List
As we are now winding down towards the draft, I have a pretty good idea which prospects I'll be paying attention to in the first three rounds. So, here is my "Draft Radar" consisting of five players I see as possible first round targets, ten I see as possible second round targets and ten I see as possible third round targets (listed in alphabetical order):
Round 1
Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech
Aaron Curry, LB, Wake Forest
Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia
B.J. Raji, DT, Boston College
Jason Smith, OT, Baylor
Round 2
William Beatty, OT, Connecticut
Ron Brace, DT, Boston College
Kenny Britt, WR, Rutgers
Evander Hood, DL, Missouri
James Laurinaitis, LB, Ohio State
Phil Loadholt, OT, Oklahoma
Hakeem Nicks, WR, North Carolina
Brian Robiskie, WR, Ohio State
Clint Sintim, LB, Viginia
Sean Smith, DB, Utah
Round 3
Antonio Appleby, LB, Virginia
Ramses Barden, WR, Cal Poly
Rhett Bomer, QB, Sam Houston State
Gerald Cadogan, OT, Penn State
Herman Johnson, OG/OT, LSU
Terrance Knighton, DT, Temple
Troy Kropog, OT, Tulane
Sherrod Martin, CB, Troy
Scott McKillop, LB, Pittsburgh
Mike Thomas, WR, Arizona
Note: I acknowlege that some of the players listed might not be available in Rounds 2 and 3, respectively. The lists consist of players that have a reasonable chance of being there when the Rams pick in those rounds.
Now, from these lists, who would be your top 3 picks?
Re: Av's Draft Radar (Five/Ten/Ten) - Select From This List
Round 1: Jason Smith
Round 2: Ron Brace
Round 3: Antoinio Appleby
Note: for the 3rd round your the one that told me about Gerald Codogen and made me a belever on him but since i think we go Jason Smith in 1st Codogen aint gunna be taken. My draft was based on our biggest needs (OT, NT, MLB). However i think you should consider Rashad Jennings in the 3rd because he would be a great compliment for Action Jackson.
Re: Av's Draft Radar (Five/Ten/Ten) - Select From This List
Hey AV
This is what I'd want from your list.
1: Jason Smith OT
2: Evander Hood DT
3: Ramses Barden WR
Now round 4 : Jasper Brinkley MLB :D
Re: Av's Draft Radar (Five/Ten/Ten) - Select From This List
Orakpo, Brace, Bomer.....
Not given up on Orakpo. I think we need a DE to replace Little and he keeps moving up the depth chart.
Re: Av's Draft Radar (Five/Ten/Ten) - Select From This List
1) Either Monroe or Smith ( Hard choice between all your rd 1 candidates)
2) Ron Brace
3) Antonio Appleby
Re: Av's Draft Radar (Five/Ten/Ten) - Select From This List
1) Raji
2) Beatty (I don't think he will be there and I think Jamon Meredith should be the pick but he is not on your list.)
3) Barden (I am a bigger fan of Juaquin Iglesias but he is not on your list.)
Re: Av's Draft Radar (Five/Ten/Ten) - Select From This List
1 Curry
2 Beatty
3 Ramses Barden- you cant spell his name with out saying RAMS!
Re: Av's Draft Radar (Five/Ten/Ten) - Select From This List
1) Aaron Curry
2) Phil Loadholt
3) Rhett Bomer
... from that list.
Personally, I'd like:
1) Aaron Curry
2) Phil Loadholt
3) Shonn Greene

Okay, don't shoot me, but......
assuming the line works out with Barron, Greco, Brown, Cogs, Bell, pretty big assumption I agree, but if it works out....
1. Curry
2. Laurinaitis
3. Barden
Maybe, we are overestimating the need for our O-line. But HUb, are you saying they're gonna get magically better overnight?
Yes, actually, I am. What makes for a good pass protection OL? Well, HUb, that would be the ability to block until the QB gets rid of the ball. Yes, exactly right. So either, the line needs to block longer, OR........the routes have to be shorter.
We're going from an Air Coryell vertical system to a WCO. The WCO does not require the length of block that our system has needed in the past 10 years. Just this philosophical switch will improve the pass protection.
So with that in mind, why not rebuild this defense starting with the two of the top 3 LBs in this draft? And follow that up with what should be a hot prospect for the WCO?
I'm not married to it, or anything, but it's debateworthy though.
Re: Av's Draft Radar (Five/Ten/Ten) - Select From This List
Its a gamble, no doubt, but a starting LB corps of Witherspoon/Curry/Laurinaitis (with Pisa and Draft backing them up) sounds pretty darn good.
Still, I'm sticking with the top 3 from my most recent mock:
Round 1: Curry
Round 2: Brace
Round 3: Cadogan
Re: Av's Draft Radar (Five/Ten/Ten) - Select From This List
Curry
Beatty
Barden
But i'd take louis Murphy over Barden, he's more polished and is better after the catch.
Re: Av's Draft Radar (Five/Ten/Ten) - Select From This List
Curry
Loadholt
Barden
I don't know if Appleby and Knighton are going in the third, but I would definately add Jamon Meredith in the second

Hub I've been a big advocate for this since I learned Laurinaitis may fall to us, I think you have been stealing my ideas ;)
I see two glaring holes at LB, and if Laurinaitis is still there in the second, I think he can finally be our solution to MLB and allow the BPA Curry play his natural SAM position.
And not only was I going to pick the LB's from AV's list, I also would take the BIG Ramses Barden in the third.
Thanks for taking my controversial picks while I was in a chemistry lab, and thanks for explaining the o line situation. I'm certainly not ecstatic about the o line, but i think it is serviceable, especially if Bell can play tackle. Teams wont be focusing on sacking Bulger, because they will be worried about S Jax popping them in their mouth and our young play making defense shutting them out.
RUN the ball and play DEFENSE. The new St. Louis Rams
Re: Av's Draft Radar (Five/Ten/Ten) - Select From This List
If our O-Line could hold up as Hub pointed out, I would go with
Curry
Brace
Barden
But, If it looks like OT just can't wait until later rounds, I'd take Beatty over Brace.
Re: Av's Draft Radar (Five/Ten/Ten) - Select From This List
I have also been thinking along the same lines as HUb. But I just can't let go of the fact that Barron's in his walk year and J. Bell is untried at tackle. Plus the fact that we've had the second pick in the draft two years in a row now, and if we don't come away with a monster at Left Tackle at some point somebody's gonna PAY!! I wish I could have the confidence that Baby Alex will develop and mature, but frankly I don't. So with all of that said my picks from Av's list are:
1.) Jason Smith
2.) Ron Brace
3.) Ramses (The Pharoah) Barden
WHAT SAY YE?
