Av's Final 2013 Rams Draft Board and Weekend Watch List

The time has come for my final lists.

    Here's my methodology:

    1. On prior boards, I included several players who, though perhaps of interest to the Rams, have virtually no chance of making it to No. 16. As these players are largely irrelevant to my priority lists, I've taken them off the board.

    2. I've divided my Top 20 Draft Board into three categories:

Group 1 consists of priority prospects for Pick #16. In other words, if any of these players are on the board, the Rams should take the highest ranked prospect and not consider (absent an absurdly lopsided offer) trading back.

Group 2 consists of priority prospects for Pick #22. In other words, if any of players from Groups 1 and 2 are on the board at #22, the Rams should take the highest ranked prospect and not consider (absent an absurdly lopsided offer) trading back.

Group 3 consists of players who I might take in Round 1, but would prefer not to take them without first attempting to trade back to acquire more picks.

    3. I've extended the second list from 20 to 30 players and am now calling it a Weekend Watch List rather than a Day 2 Watch list, as it includes players I would consider beyond Round 3.

    4. Players with an asterisk are those who have met with, or are scheduled to meet with, the Rams.

And with those explanations... here are my final lists:

Off the board: Luke Joekel, Eric Fisher, Lane Johnson, Dee Milliner,Xavier Rhodes, Sharif Floyd, Dion Jordan.

Good list Av, the only i really question is Le'veon Bell. I Like Bell a lot and hope the Rams draft him, but not in round 1 or 2. Whats your process for taking him in the late 1st/early 2nd? Just curious the reasoning and maybe im missing something.

At the end of the day, I'd say my view of Bell is basically a "hunch."

It seems like every year there is a RB who performs way above expectations (i.e. Alfred Morris). From watching Bell play, I think he has the making of a very productive NFL back. Additionally, he may be the best receiver and blocker (blitz pickup) of any RB in this draft, which would make him very valuable on passing downs.

Re: Av's Final 2013 Rams Draft Board and Weekend Watch List

As the draft gets closer, I really am starting to wonder whether any of the 5 players in my "Group 1" will last until pick #16. If none of them are there at that point, I really think the Rams should try very hard to trade back and aquire additional picks. While taking a "Group 2" player at #16 is not out of the question, I think there is so little gap between the players I have listed from #6 - #12 that the Rams can afford to move back a few spots if it means getting another Day 2 pick to fill a need.

Patterson and Austin have the best chance to be there. I would think we could get Dallas to move up for Kenny Vaccaro, that would only drop us back to 18. I would not mind dropping back with both pick or with the 16th pick maybe we drop back to 18 then trade back again if a team wants back in for a QB.

I also think there's a reasonable chance we'll see Fluker available at #16. Though there has been recent hype about him being a "riser," I wonder how many teams would take an OT in the Top 15 who is expected to be a career RT. He'd be a great selection for us, though, and would make Saffold fully expendible (maybe as part of a later trade package?)

Despite your rating Vaccaro further down your board Av, I believe that we very well could target him at 16 if the line prospects and the top two WR's are not there. He fills a need, Fisher did well with another Texas safety, and everyone else has him head(though probably not shoulders) above the rest of the safety class. I'd be happy with him.
    I believe!

I think its possible that he could go that high, and I wouldn't be that upset if he were the choice. I just like him a lot better at #22 than at #16.

    Thanks.

As I look over my list one week later, the one guy I think I might have too low is Menelik Watson. I'm hearing more and more that he might even sneak into the first round. I like him better as a Round 2 prospect, but there are some who think he has a lot of upside.

Re: Av's Final 2013 Rams Draft Board and Weekend Watch List

While I don't intend to make any further changes to my board, here are a few nagging thoughts that I have:

    * I have Elam and Reid ranked over the WR trio of J.Hunter, T.Williams and D.Hopkins. I would not be at all surprised, however, if the Rams take a WR before they look at the S position.

    * I recognize that I have T.Williams above virtually everyone else. To me, his consistent production has been downplayed a bit. Nonetheless, I'm guessing he'll be a Round 2 pick.

    * My safety ranking of Elam, Reid then Vaccaro is likely not the order in which they'll be drafted. I would be fine if the Rams selected Vaccaro over the other two. I trust they've watched more film than I have. From what I have seen though, I'm sticking with my ranking.

    * It seems that Chance Warmack is being nudged down a lot of boards. I don't get that. Watch that guy on film. His blocks look like the scene from The Blind Side when Oher pushes the DE down the field and over the fence.

    * Cordarrelle Patterson has also been sliced and diced in recent weeks. Again, just watch the film. The guy seems pretty special to me.

    * I probably should have Menelik Watson higher, but the Jason Smith experience makes me fear the high upside/athletic but raw OT prospect.

    Looking forward to Thursday!

    AV

Where is the ClanRam pick by pick draft board you started a month ago? Can't seem to find it in the search engine......

Might be fun to have it around come draft night.

Re: Av's Final 2013 Rams Draft Board and Weekend Watch List

The ClanRam "Group Input" board was completed on 1/17/13. Here's what it looked like:

    And there you have it!

Here is our Version 1.0 ClanRam Group Input Rams Draft Board:

    1. Luke Joekel, OT, Texas A&M
    2. Star Lotulelei, DT, Utah
    3. Chance Warmack, OG, Alabama
    4. Jarvis Jones, OLB, Georgia
    5. Jesse Williams, DT, Alabama
    6. Keenan Allen, WR, California
    7. Tyler Eifert, TE, Notre Dame
    8. Damontre Moore, DE, Texas A&M
    9. Eric Fisher, OT, Eastern Michigan
    10. Jonathan Cooper, OG, North Carolina
    11. Manti Te'o, LB, Notre Dame
    12. Dallas Thomas, OT, Tennessee
    13. Barkevious Mingo, OLB, LSU
    14. Cordarelle Patterson, WR, Tennessee
    15. Matt Elam, S, Florida
    16. Dee Milliner, CB, Alabama
    17. Terrance Williams, WR, Baylor
    18. DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Clemson
    19. Kenny Vaccaro, S, Texas
    20. D.J. Swearinger, S, South Carolina
    21. Dion Jordan, OLB, Oregon
    22. Xavier Rhodes, DB, FSU
    23. Philip Thomas, S, Fresno State
    24. Justin Hunter, WR, Tennessee
    25. Menelik Watson, OT, FSU

    Interesting list!

I'd say the most surprising players are Swearinger, P.Thomas and Watson. While I like these players, I wouldn't have guessed they'd be in anyone's top 25 for the Rams. Probably the most surprising omissions are Barrett Jones and Eric Reid.

As I said in the initial post, I think it will be interesting to do this again after the start of FA and the Combine and see how much our views change.

    Thanks for the input!

Oh my. I feel like our list might be a......um, "little" off.
