    Av's Pre-Combine Rams Draft Board (Version 3.0) - Top 30 Prospects!

    Time for another update...

I've increased my list to 30 players, which means that the Rams could have an opportunity to select 3 or maybe even 4 of the players on this list.

I've added Jadeveon Clowney and Anthony Barr. While I would not take either with the 2nd pick in the draft, at some point, if the Rams were to move down, I could see considering them.

This list could, of course, change dramatically after the Combine.

    1. Jake Matthews, OT, Texas A&M (Sr) 6’5, 305
    2. Greg Robinson, OT, Auburn (rSo) 6’5, 320
    3. Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson (Jr) 6’1, 205
    4. Jadeveon Clowney, DE, South Carolina (Jr) 6’5,274
    5. Mike Evans, WR, Texas A&M (rSo) 6’5, 225
    6. Taylor Lewan, OT, Michigan (rSr) 6’7, 315
    7. Anthony Barr, OLB, UCLA (Sr) 6’4, 248
    8. Darqueze Dennard, CB, Michigan State (Sr) 5’11,197
    9. Hasean Clinton-Dix, S, Alabama (Jr) 6’1, 206
    10. Calvin Pryor, S, Louisville (Jr) 6’2, 208
    11. Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State (Sr) 6’0, 200
    12. Zack Martin, OT/OG, Notre Dame (Sr) 6'4, 305
    13. Timmy Jernigan, DT, Florida State (Jr) 6’2, 298
    14. RaShede Hagerman, DT, Minnesota (rSr) 6’6, 311
    15. David Yankey, OG, Stanford (Jr) 6’5, 312
    16. Kelvin Benjamin, WR, Florida State (rSo) 6’5, 235
    17. Kyle Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech (Sr) 6’0, 194
    18. Aaron Donald, DT, Pittsburgh (Sr) 6’1, 288
    19. Cyrus Kouandjio, OT, Alabama (Jr) 6’5, 210
    20. Deone Buchannon S, Washington State (Sr) 6’1, 215
    21. Louis Nix, DT, Notre Dame (rJr) 6’2, 345
    22. Morgan Moses, OT, Virginia (Sr) 6’6, 325
    23. Tre Mason, RB, Auburn (Jr) 5’9, 205
    24. Stanley Jean-Baptiste, CB, Nebraska (Sr) 6’3, 215
    25. Ed Reynolds, S, Stanford (rJr) 6’2, 206
    26. Gabe Jackson, OG, Mississippi State (rSr) 6’4, 339
    27. Allen Robinson, WR, Penn State (Jr) 6’3, 210
    28. Jack Mewhort, OT, Ohio State (rSr) 6’6, 306

Anthony Barr instead of Khalil Mack? Interesting. Mack's tape is far superior, but Barr has probably the highest ceiling of all the players in this draft.

    Here's my issue with Mack.

In week 1, he had a great game against Ohio State, recording 2.5 sacks and returning an interception for a TD (though, notably, his team still gave up 40 points).

After that, his best games came against schools like Stony Brook, Massachusetts, Kent State and Miami (OH). Not exactly great competition.

For me to have a DE or a LB on my board, I need to be convinced that the player is an exceptional talent. Right now, I need to hear and read more about Mack before I can draw a conclusion. At this point, I'd probably put C.J. Mosley on my board before him.

No argument here, though by the beginning of next week, Clowney may be #1 on everyone's list, including the Texans.

That's what makes the Combine fun (at least, for chronics like me). The situation remains fluid until shortly before draft day.

Good list, only thing I would change personally if it were my list, would be to add Van Noy and Verrett to it.
But it is your list and not mine so can't really argue.

Verrett is a bit smaller than I'd like, but he certainly has his supporters. As for Van Noy... I'm just not looking at LBs early in the draft.

Understandable. Verrett is a bit small, but if he gained 10 lbs would be the same size as Verner. Both are 5'10(supposedly). But I would agree that I'd prefer a taller, bigger CB as well. As for not looking for Lb early, can't argue that, have been on the fence about that for a while, and still am.

AV, just a quick question as most people have Matthews then Robinson & Clinton Dix followed by Pryor. From what I have been reading I see Pryor & Robinson are the options with more upside whilst Matthews and Clinton Dix are the safer more complete prospects (who from my experience seem to have played consistently well over more college seasons). My question is how big a drop off do you see between each selection and then what do you feel the Rams would be looking for in regards to each of these? (eg. Robinson has 15kg on Matthews and if they are fairly equally graded given the fact we have an awesome Oline coach the additional strength/power from Robinson may swing in his favour)

What's your point of differentiation between Gilbert and Dennard, AV?

In the case of Matthews and Robinson, I do think it is a comparison of a polished pro-ready prospect vs. a physical phenom. I like the safer bet there, though it is close.

In the case of Clinton-Dix and Pryor, I give the edge to HCD because of the competition he played against. Again, though, its close.

I love Gilbert's size and ball-hawk abilities, but Dennard's reputation as a press-coverage specialist gives him the edge in my mind. That said, if Gilbert out-performs Dennard at the Combine, I'd have no problem flipping their order.

I cringed at seeing Watkins above clowney but it is what it is

I like that you have Mathews above Robinson it seems more and more often I am seeing Robinson above Mathews now because of his potential and people are forgetting the more polished prospect in Mathews... same goes for Clinton Dix and pryor it seems more often every year that draft analysts like to put potential, physical attributes, and combine performance over the actual college career.

Curious to see how the top shakes out, if Watkins is rising but the guys in front of him solidified their status.
