And the award for Most Awkward Combine Interview goes to...

...Abilene Christian offensive tackle Tony Washington!

An offensive tackle from a small Division II Christian school, Tony Washington went to Indianapolis virtually unknown. After top performances at the NFL Combine, the Abilene Christian standout has seen his draft stock climb as high as the second round. But he bears the burden of a troubled past – one that’s causing some NFL teams to think twice.

Washington is a registered sex offender.

Until now, he has not publicly addressed the specifics of his situation, but in a statement provided exclusively to SportsFanLive.com, he confirmed what is likely to haunt him for the rest of his life.

“I made a mistake at the age of 16, and for that, I am deeply sorry,” Washington said. “I will not try and excuse or justify anything. I have worked extremely hard to do everything right so that I might have an opportunity to give back. I only hope that someone in the NFL will give me the same opportunity that Abilene Christian and Trinity Valley gave me.”

In May 2003, Washington was convicted of having sex with a relative that multiple NFL and college sources say was his 15-year old biological sister. The act was consensual, according to his college coaches and two NFL scouts, who spoke to him about the incident. The sister does not wish to speak publicly on the case, according to Washington’s agent, who added that the siblings are now on good terms and talk often. Washington received five years probation and did not serve jail time.

Due to the nature of the crime and Washington’s status as a juvenile, records specifically related to the crime itself could not be obtained in requests made to both the Texas Department of Public Safety and the New Orleans Police Department. But if this had been "sexual assault," Washington’s report on the sex-offender registry would have listed a different offense.

Inside the interview rooms at the Combine, scouts questioned him at length about his past. Some are willing to give him a chance. After all, Washington had the best broad jump among offensive lineman at 9 feet, 6 inches and the sixth-best time in the three-cone drill. Despite that talent, other scouts may not be so forgiving.

For the record, when I put him on my "sleeper" list, that's not what I was referring to.

I just found this update to the Washington story:

Abilene, TX (AP) - While ACU standout tackle Tony Washington is getting ready for his NFL career, he is having to answer several questions from his past. Now, more than just Washington are answering questions. Several of his friends and family are publically addressing the situation as well. "Tony has always been a good boy," says his mother/aunt, Lorna Washington. "You see what he can do on the field. And trust me he won't embarass a team off the field." commented Washington's cousin/brother, Tom. While discussing his athletic abilities, he was referred to as "very bendy" by Eugenia Washington, his sister/grandma.
That should shed some light on the subject.
"Before the gates of excellence the high gods have placed sweat; long is the road thereto and rough and steep at first; but when the heights are reached, then there is ease, though grievously hard in the winning." --- Hesiod

PS-- this guy was a top recruit going to LSU

He was by no way "unknown"

Tony Washington was a beast (of a player) coming out of high school and many people thought he was a first round pick (potential) at the age of 16.

He is not some guy that came out of no where. he was a top talent that had insanely warped family life that put him into hiding and discrace.

Well when it comes to play on the football field it doesn't matter who he has sex with and I don't care who he has sex with, sure its a crime, sure nobody wants to have these thoughts running in their head...but this was something that happened when he was 16, I'm sure he regrets it deeply, and although not totally ignoring the ghastliness of the act I guess if draft "value" can come from then it might not be a bad idea to "capitalize" on it.

The only problem I could see from this as far as putting this thing behind him is his relationship with players in the locker room, its not exactly a good relationship builder to have this on your resume.

God i can only imagine how awkward that is and was in interviews.

    "Sooooo........you ugh......slept with your ugh.....sister eh?"
    "Yeeaaaaaa.....see what had happened was........"
    "Yeeeaaaaaaaaa.........."

Damn if he won't be the butt end of jokes for at least 2 years after his rookie season. Even then whenever he stands out at or for something that will always be in the back of people's minds..

Wow that's pretty messed up. But I bet this does make him get drafted. Lower now just for the baggage he brings his rookie year. So this will probaly make him a good picup in later rounds for someone

Well I believe one of the four pillars is to be "family oriented."

I say let's draft him... but I am from Kentucky.

You could say they're like kissing cousins.

Does anyone else wonder how he got convicted of this? If it was consensual, the sister probably didn't report it.

Kids do stupid stuff. I know the crime is effin' weird, but really, at 16 I know I did some damned stupid stuff. I didn't roll in bed with my relatives, but eh, to each his own. Lets draft him and resign Cog - see how they get along. :-D
