    Bald_81's Mock Offseason V1

    Re-Signings

    FS OJ Atogwe
    NT Clifton Ryan
    OL Mark Setterstrom
    LS Chris Massey
    DE Leonard Little*
    DE C.J. Ah You

    Cuts

    OT Alex Barron
    TE Randy McMichael
    QB Marc Bulger

    Walks

    QB Kyle Boller
    DT Gary Gibson
    WR Ruvell Martin
    SS Clinton Hart
    RB Samkon Gado
    RB Kenneth Darby
    DE James Hall
    LB Paris Lenon
    DE Victor Adeyanju

    Free Agency

    QB Chad Pennington
    - Notes: A veteran QB who will be available due to Chad Henne's success in South Beach. Chad will be a great bridge QB for the Rams and could provide a similar spark/impact on offense as he did for Miami in '08.

    RB Leon Washington
    - Notes: With the emergence of rookie Shonn Greene, there is a crowded backfield with only so many carries to go around. Leon would be a great change of pace back for Steven who possesses a similar talent in the receiving game making him more dangerous.

    OT Tyson Clabo
    - Notes: With the departure of Alex Barron and Jason Smith shifting over to the left side, there is a need for a RT. Tyson Clabo has done a great job keeping Matt Ryan off his back in Atlanta and would help solidify our line.

    DE Ray Edwards
    - Notes: Although he plays with what might be the best supporting cast in the NFL (Jared Allen, Pat & Kevin Williams), Ray Edwards is a young player who has gotten better with each passing season. He would help add to the young nucleus that Devaney is trying to build on as well as give Spags a new toy to play with.

    LB Omar Gaither
    - Notes: He was with Spags for one season in Philadelphia, but he possesses the versatility to play different linebacker positions. Besides Laurinaitis, our LB core has a lot of issues and Gaither will be a solid addition.

    LB Danny Clark
    - Notes: A jack-of-all-trades who can play all three linebacker spots, he essentially replaces Paris Lenon as the veteran of this group but more importantly provides depth at each position.

    CB Richard Marshall
    - Notes: A tough, physical corner who fits the mold of what Spags wants. Marshall is very young and entering the prime of his career which is exactly what the Rams want and he also fills a position of need.

    NFL Draft

Round 1: Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska
    - Notes: Taking a QB first overall would be a slam dunk here if there was a franchise type available, alas, the Rams don't exactly have the best luck. However, they are blessed to find one of the best defensive prospects of the decade. Suh not only addresses an area of need, but he makes the rest of the defense better and could help catapult Chris Long into double-digit sacks in 2010.

Round 2: Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma.
    - Notes: Playmakers, playmakers, playmakers. Is that what you want Billy? Look no further than Jermaine Gresham who would've been taken in the mid-first had he not gotten injured. Although he needs to show the willingness to be a better blocker, Gresham is an outstanding receiver and would help give the Rams another threat they desperately need on offense.

Round 3: Dezmon Briscoe, WR, Kansas.
    - Notes: A tall receiver with outstanding production at Kansas, Briscoe is not getting the type of buzz like an Arrelious Benn, Damian Williams or Golden Tate, but he has the potential to be a great WR at the next level that can be had outside of the first round.

Round 4: Koa Misi, DE, Utah
    - Notes: As of right now, Misi remains an intriguing option in round four because of his production and non-stop motor. However, with an invite to the Senior Bowl and a chance to play in front of scouts, his stock could be on the rise.

Round 5: Dan LeFevour, QB, Central Michigan
    - Notes: At this time last year, LeFevour was viewed as a QB who could possibly go in the first round. But with an inconsistent senior year and more time for scouts to pick apart his game, his stock has fallen. Although his arm strength isn't great and he plays in a spread offense, taking a flier on LeFevour this late would be a great move for the Rams.

Round 5 (PHI): Stafon Johnson, RB, USC.
    - Notes: Johnson was the victim of a terrible weightlifting accident his senior year at USC. When he was playing, he split carries between himself, Joe McKnight and C.J. Gable. Johnson shows quick moves for a big back and would battle with last year's seventh round pick Chris Ogbannaya for a roster spot.

Round 6: Reggie Carter, ILB, UCLA.
    - Notes: An inside backer at UCLA, Carter has the ability to shift to the outside in St. Louis and help provide depth to a LB core that is currently in flux.

Round 7: Derek Hardman, OT, Eastern Kentucky.
    - Notes: You can never have enough depth at the tackle position as we have seen for the past couple of seasons here in St. Louis. Hardman would most likely battle for a spot on the practice squad.

Round 7 (ATL): Sherrick McManis, CB, Northwestern.
    - Notes: Beyond our starters, Justin King and Quincy Butler certainly leave a lot to be desired. McManis would get a legitimate chance to prove himself.

    2010 Training Camp Roster

QB: Chad Pennington / Keith Null / Dan LeFevour
RB: Steven Jackson / Leon Washington / Stafon Johnson / Chris Ogbonnaya

RE: Chris Long / C.J. Ah You / Koa Misi
WLB: Omar Gaither / Larry Grant / Chris Chamberlain
MLB: James Laurinaitis / Danny Clark / Reggie Carter
SLB: Danny Clark / David Vobora / Reggie Carter
CB: Ron Bartell / Richard Marshall / Bradley Fletcher / Quincy Butler / Justin King / Sherrick McManis
FS: O.J. Atogwe / Craig Dahl
SS: James Butler / David Roach

    K: Josh Brown
    P: Donnie Jones
    LS: Chris Massey

    Re: Bald_81's Mock Offseason V1

Do you think a healthy Pennington is really an upgrade over a healthy Bulger?

How are we going to convince Ray Edwards to come from the supporting cast in Minnesota to here?

Why would we draft a 3rd round receiver if we get Gresham in the 2nd?

How are we going to sign Marshall, Leon Washington and Ray Edwards the same year? Are going to pull money out of our ass?

    Why is Gary Gibson Walking?

    Re: Bald_81's Mock Offseason V1

Always love seeing what everyone else thinks. Nice work.

    I have three concerns.

    1) Picking up 7 people in Free Agency may be a little unrealistic.

    2) I read that Leon Washington wants some big money. Maybe 5 mill a year. I'm not saying he isn't worth it I just don't see paying that for a back-up and I also think he will favor going somewhere he can be the number 1.

    3) Maybe it's just our history but I really don't want to use a second round pick on a tight end. Not unless he is Dallas Clark's younger brother.

I like everything except signing pennington, his arm strength wasn't that great before he re-injured his throwing shoulder (third surgery on that shoulder)...I do agree that we need a new face to the franchise with a change at qb though.

Swap firsts with tampa, get a couple 2nds, and maybe even get a third, and draft claussen? We get our franchise qb, and can fill more holes with the extra picks...

Well it could be an uncapped year next year, but also the Rams have some 30mill in cap space thanks to Billy Devaney working some magic on the dead money and rubbish big contracts we gave in the past

    Dezmon Briscoe? No

Sorry, but I would prefer somebody that knows how to hold onto the ball once he catches it. Danario Alexander would likely be available at this point in the draft, and I see no reason not to take the best wide receiver in College Football last year. He has height, speed, and knows how to catch the ball and make plays after the catch.

The big concern about Leon Washington is that he comes from an injury. He also wants to be paid like a top back... We can find better value, especially at the position.
I like the Stafon Johnson pick in the 5th, he is a tough runner and a complete back, he could be a steal at this level.

    1. Is that a joke? You would think after numerous nicks and injuries Pennington has suffered throughout his career he would regress or exhibit the "shell-shocked" tendencies that Bulger currently does. Instead, he continues to come back and perform and he was very proficient with Miami in '08. He didn't exactly have incredible weapons either (Ginn, Bess, Camarillo as his WRs), but he had a great running game which is something he will have here in St. Louis.

    2. We just convinced Jason Brown last year to leave an up and coming team in Baltimore to join the Rams, so who's to say we can't draw Ray Edwards here especially when he will work with a defensive mind like Spagnuolo?

    3. Our WR core is young and has potential but there are still holes, most notably the lack of a true #1. Briscoe has great size which is what we currently lack (Laurent Robinson is our tallest WR at 6'2) and he has decent speed which could make him a nice target in the red zone for those fade routes we saw being thrown at our smaller WRs this year.

    4. If this were a capped year, the Rams would be $35 mil under. You're telling me they couldn't sign seven players with that much free money? I'm not suggesting Devaney is going to go for a one year quick fix, but to imply that it would take a miracle to sign seven player is just laughable.

    5. He's walking because if we draft Suh, we will have him along with Clifton Ryan, Darell Scott, Adam Carriker, LaJuan Ramsey and Leger Douzable at the DT position. I just don't see any room for a guy like Gibson.

I agree with all you points except this one. And the only reason i dont agree with this is that Gibson was playing ahead of Scott, Ramsey and Douzable before his injury.

Then again i suppose it depends on how many DTs the Rams plan to keep on the roster, as 6 seems a lot. Especially since none of them really play end (maybe Carriker could)

I don't think LeFevour will last until the 5th round.
