Bears trade Payne to Rams for draft pick
The Chicago Bears traded safety Kevin Payne to the St. Louis Rams on Wednesday for an undisclosed 2011 draft pick.
The Bears added depth to the position through the draft by selecting Florida's Major Wright in the third round, and by trading linebacker Jamar Williams to the Carolina Panthers for safety Chris Harris on Tuesday.
Payne started 22 of 32 games over three seasons for the Bears. The fifth-round pick in 2007 notched 195 tackles, four interceptions, 10 pass break-ups and one sack with the Bears.

Re: Bears trade Payne to Rams for draft pick
A hard hitting guy, productive until something happened last year from what I've read. I love this defensive backfield commitment that we have shown this off season. All are physical press guys or at least know how to hit. If OJ can come back great!, but if he cant then I think we'll survive with all the competition of decent talent to work with.
GO RAMS!!!
Re: Bears trade Payne to Rams for draft pick
This is a bit unexpected. With Atogwe, Butler, and Dahl, I would have thought safety would be as close to a strength as we have on the defense.
Re: Bears trade Payne to Rams for draft pick
Atogwe's sports hernia and shoulders surgery at 28, isn't sitting well with me personally. I'd like to see him come back but the news of that hernia (which may never go away) makes me think a backup plan is great.
Btw: Any defensive player with the name "Payne" is always welcome.......
Re: Bears trade Payne to Rams for draft pick
Blazer says we got him for a 7th round pick and that is conditional on whether or not he makes the team.
