Which is the bigger draft need? OLB or SS?
When i say draft need i mean we use one of our 1st three picks for the position with the intention to land a franchise defender.
I dont mean getting a free agent at the position like we did with James Butler or Na'il Diggs.
What is more important to spags Defense a good cover safety so we can blitz more often or a pass rushing OLB so we may get to the QB quciker?
Basically if you were in charge who would you take in the middle of the 2nd round Ras-I Dowling or Greg Jones.
Dowling's size and versatility allow him to be a Safety and he is best in zone coverage. Jones is a sure tackler and a WLB with his size and he can also pass rush well. Both are 4-pillar players who right now would be graded similarly.

If its a choice between LB and SS, I wouldn't even hesitate -- OLB. The safeties would look a whole lot better if the LBs could cover and tackle. Its also the weakest position on the roster, which is saying something when you consider how bad our WRs are.

Safety in round 3 i like Deandre McDaniel or Mark Barron. WLB I think should be our top target in FA alot of good options out there I like Rocky McCintosh and James Anderson.

If Mark Barron declares and is available in round 3 I wouldn't hesitate to pick him up. I just don't think he lasts that far. I might even consider him in the 2nd round, depending on who else is available and what we did in rd 1. But I still voted OLB.

I can't even think these two are close. Olb by far. Is James butler not coming back? He was decent when he was playing. Dahl could tackle a stuffed animal if he is what we are left with then it is a bigger need. But OLB biggest need next to WR

Re: Which is the bigger draft need? OLB or SS?
OLB by a mile over SS, losing Digg's really showed up to me late in the season.
For now i think the biggest needs for the Rams should go in this order.
WR/OG are almost on a par, with WR a slightly higher priority because of Sammy B and his development.
OLB comes a close third, we need better coverage and more strength at the point of attack. Better athletes at the position.
A change of pace RB is an absolute must for next season.
These are all top priority if the Rams want to get in the playoffs next season, we must not forget about the O-Line. The fans are getting a little too obsessed with the sexy picks like WR's, when a couple of good run blockers would have a bigger impact short term for the Rams.Last edited by GROUND DOG 39; -01-07-2011 at 01:11 PM.

Re: Which is the bigger draft need? OLB or SS?
We don't have any OLBs that can play consistently at a high level. Craig Dahl and OJ Atogwe are the safeties that I want for the future. We really need new outside linebackers more than anything else.
