Billy Devaney impressed with Eugene Monroe!! Frerotte a ram again?
By Bill Coats
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Rams GM Billy Devaney is on his way back to St. Louis after spending part of Wednesday and most of Thursday in Charlottesville, Va., meeting with University of Virginia offensive tackle Eugene Monroe and observing his pro day workout.
“It was impressive,” Devaney reported. “He’s really a good guy, and he’s going to be a really good player.”
The Rams are looking for help on the O-line, and Monroe could emerge as their choice at No. 2 overall in the draft.
On the free-agency front, Devaney said he’s trying to work out deals with tight end Billy Bajema and quarterback Gus Frerotte. “We’re still talking with both of those guys,” Devaney said, “and we hope to get something done.”
All for now . . .
So do you think Eugene Monroe is on top of Jason Smith on the Rams board??????????
Re: Billy Devaney impressed with Eugene Monroe!! Frerotte a ram again?
I believe that he is on top right now for us. No matter how much I wish we could get Aaron Curry, I think we are getting Eugene Monroe, but I am still happy with that.

I think OT is the top position but whether Monroe or J. Smith is the first choice if both are available is still up in the air.
According to Scout.com, Smith has already worked out privately for The Rams.
Since the Scouting Combine, a source confirmed with Scout.com that Smith has met or will meet with four of the teams selecting in the top-five. Smith flew to Detroit to visit with the Lions on March 9th, and had private workouts with the St. Louis Rams on March 12th and the Cleveland Browns on March 17th. He’s also expected to visit the Kansas City Chiefs during the first week of April.

I think it's forgotten or overlooked that Branden Albert was stuck at guard, because Eugene Monroe was beating him out at tackle. Albert was a mid-round 1 pick, if that gives you any impression of the talent that Monroe is.
Personally, Monroe is my pick-of-choice for round one, but that's just me.

I'd say no, but what do I know? I think Smith is still slightly ahead of Monroe based just on his demeanor as reported by scouts. Maybe Smith has a little more of a killer instinct; not to say Monroe is soft.
Personally, I think either one would start today at LT for the Rams.

He must of impressed him during the bunny hop, the ice cream cone drill, and his hokey-pokey time.
:)

Agreed, though one could always flip that around and say Monroe is on top because, after releasing Pace, the Rams might be interested in a guy most ready to step in on Day One. Monroe is widely considered the more polished of the two. But really, I think either are very, very good left tackle prospects and would be worthy of the pick, and the Rams won't have a hard case to make to the public for either of them or Curry for that matter.

I would pick Monroe over Smith for that reason as well

This is the way I've been looking at it as well. If we take either Monroe or J. Smith I'll be pleased. A. Curry, thrilled. :ram:

Absolutely. I've never been more relaxed going into Draft season. We're at #2, and there are no less than 3 prospects I would be excited about. I'm feeling good!
Unless, of course, the NFL springs 2 expansion teams on us between now and the draft. :D

Don't underestimate his singing voice. I think AV hit the right chord in his Appleby thread.
Bring on the Cavalier Quartet of Monroe, Sintim,Appleby, and Long.
It's a Block & Tackle revolution.

We can't lose with Smith or Monroe. It's just not as an exciting pick as Curry...

True, though it'd probably be pretty exciting for Bulger and Jackson.

I would prefer Eugene Monroe I think he is more ready to step in.
