Breaking News LOL: Rams want complementary back for Jackson
Rams GM Billy Devaney acknowledged on PFT Live Tuesday that he's done a "lousy" job of finding a complementary back for Steven Jackson.
Devaney conceded that S-Jax "can't keep up at this pace." The Rams have been heavily connected to second- and third-round running backs in pre-draft visits, and we suspect they'll draft one at No. 47 or 78. The majority of St. Louis' visitors are early-down back types. Jackson can probably expect to lose carries in 2011, though his role in the passing game may increase.

Honestly I would not mind Mark Ingram in the first round. We have had great picks in the second round the past few years though. I trust Devaney and our scouting dept.

Re: Breaking News LOL: Rams want complementary back for Jackson
I remember Devaney saying on a radio interview last year how he can't sleep at nights because he worries so much about the backup running back position. We all love this team and have high expectations for it, but make no mistake, the man running the show has equal passion, and he knows how to do his job. He knows we need a backup, but he isn't going to reach if the value isn't there.

Give me DeMarco Murray. Sam works out with him now and he's familiar with him from OK. But I would hope he's there in round 3, any sooner may be a reach.
Go Rams!

Re: Breaking News LOL: Rams want complementary back for Jackson
Starting RB's come from all parts of the draft, top to bottom to not even drafted, so I'm not all that keyed in on wanting one early, though I do think we need a true and good backup to Jax.
The first decision is what kind of back do we want? Personally, I agree with the backs that we're bringing in, ones who are either balanced or early down backs. The best way to lengthen Jax's career is to use him less against heavy sets and more against lighter defenses on passing downs.
Next question, where is the value? Yes, it'd be great to get a 1st or 2nd round back, but when we need WR, OL, DL, OLB and S starters, I don't think we can afford to spend that high of a pick on a back. Especially in a poor RB draft. Now, if there's a guy who fits what we want and falls to us, say in the 3rd round, then that is the time to pull the trigger.I believe!
