bruce4life's mock draft....1.0
Before i even go into my mock draft 1.0, I am going to talk about why I chose the players I did. For so long it seems the Rams have always gone for the project players who have tremendous upside but never pan out( see Milton Wynn, Eric Crouch, Jacoby Sheppard, etc.). We have never drafted players that in college year in year out play the big bowl games!! you have to account for big game experience somewhere I believe.
So in my draft I will be drafting big time college players that have had success...
1st round:
Glenn Dorsey DT, LSU
for the past 8 years now we have been looking for a franchise DT that can help our run defense... Glenn Dorsey is that man people.. I know people want Chris Long but to me he just seems like another Grant Wistrom...
2nd Round:
Mario Manningham WR, Michagan
This guy has been productive every year no matter what. He ran the 40 in his pro day at 4.40, so he would bring some much needed speed to our Receiving Corp.
3rd Round:
Josh Barrett S Arizona State
Workout warrior that chavous can groom for a year or so before he is unleashed next to OJ
4th Round:
Buster Davis DE/OLB UCLA
he plays rugged and balls to wall something that we need in the front 7!!!! he reminds me of patrick chukwurah from tampa or elvis dumervil because he is small and can get to the Qb
5th Round:
Kevin O'Connell QB SDSU
I currently go to SDSU and this guy has what it takes athletically to make it in the NFL!!!
6th Round
Chauncy Washington RB USC
bruiser in the form of Lendale White... most likely wont be there but I can dream!!!
7th Round
Zachary Bowman CB nebraska

Re: bruce4life's mock draft....1.0
You know this thought has occurred to me several times lately. First let me say that I mean no disrespect to G. Wistrom, but I've never thought that he was the 6th best player in the '98 draft. And if you look at their measureables Wistrom and Chris Long appear to be very close. And although Grant was known for his non-stop motor, he never was really much of a pass rusher (I believe that his best year was maybe 6 sacks). I'm would like to evaluate V. Gholston v. Chris Long a bit here. While at this time I believe Long to be the more well-rounded player, I'm not too sure that maybe Gholston will prove to be the superior pass rusher in the long run (no pun intended). Finally, if Wistrom was not worthy of the 6th pick 10 years ago is Chris Long worth the 2nd pick in this draft?

Re: bruce4life's mock draft....1.0
I like it all except you don't really have a true DE. I don't think Barrett will be available in the 3rd, but if he is I would definately be all for drafting him. Is Barrett really a guy that has been a big time player? I think you gotta draft a DE in the 2nd if you go with Dorsey. If you don't have an OL in the picture this board ( not including me) will put your head on a stick.
Im with you and Ramarkable, when I hear someone say, " high motor" I think Grant Wistrom.
Not very often you get a DT in the running for a heisman.
Injuries are part of the game, it's all about playing through them and IMO Dorsey gets slammed for being injured, but the guy kept playing through.
But I'm an LSU homer so I just see in shades of Purple and Gold.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]Maybe not now, but soon.

Re: bruce4life's mock draft....1.0
Hey badmofo, what's an "LSU homer" doing up in Colorado? Last time I looked they ain't playin' any real (SEC) football up there. Anyway, although the Hogs beat LSU this year (was it 3 or 4 ot's in that game?), I was very proud of ya'll for winning the National Championship once again for the SEC. Man the SEC West is going to be murder this year as always. Bring your hard hat and flak jacket 'cuz no prisoners are gonna be taken!! Heck nobody even rebuilds in the SEC West, they just reload.

Re: bruce4life's mock draft....1.0
I give you a lot of credit for going a completely other way that what everyone has been saying, either OT or DE in the first round. And you're right, Dorsey looks everything like the next Warren Sapp. The issue is, I think that franchise tackle was found last year, in Adam Carriker. I could be wrong, and if we switch to a 3-4, then we could need a big time tackle, but Dorsey wouldn't be him either.
I love the Manningham pick, he's a playmaker that burns down field.
I'm not a fan of rounds three and four because I think we need an OT prospect here and I think that the quality of safety we could get at that pick will be substandard. Buster Davis, I love him because he's a Bruin, and because he's an all-american, is a quandary. His combine was extremely sub-par and his pro day was not much better. He's show to be too small to play on the line but too slow to play linebacker. I'm sure he'll get drafted and maybe he'll be one of those second day(round 4 and lower) guys that become stars or at least big time role players, but I don't want to take the risk that he won't. This is one of the few times that I would pass up a great heart and great awareness player, but only because his measurables are so, well, bad.

Re: bruce4life's mock draft....1.0
I'd much rather take Gholston with the second pick, because our pass rush needs more help than our run defense. Besides, I believe Gholston has the most upside anyway.
If James Hardy is available, I'd take him over every receiver in this draft. He reminds me of Calvin Johnson, which I would've traded Torry Holt for last year if the Lions were willing. Nothing like a huge target with speed and good hands.
When you say "workout warrior" from Arizona St, I can't help but think Adam Archuleta. And we all know how well that worked out. Probably better off looking best available O-lineman in the 3rd.
If we draft Gholston in the 1st, no need to reach for Buster Davis here, thus opening up the possiblity of drafting the Safety from Notre Dame. I believe he spells it Zibrowski or something like that. If he's gone I'd look at a speed burner Receiver, hopefully Will Franklin or Donnie Avery will be there at this spot although I doubt it.
I'd be estatic if our draft started off like that.

Re: bruce4life's mock draft....1.0
I truly and honestly believe the Rams have Gholston rated higher than Chris Long. If both were to be there at #2, the Rams would probably trade down to select Gholston. Kill me but I just don't think we're that overwhelmed with Chris as we are with Vernon at this point. It has nothing do to with not like Long, I think he will be a great and consistent pro, but I just do not think the Rams are a team that is in love with him and considers him a can't miss prospect.

Re: bruce4life's mock draft....1.0
I'm sorry, I do believe that we have our DT for many years. Adam Carriker. He was a great player last year. With his buddy right next to him (Clifton Ryan) I think we have that position set.
Besides round one, I like all of them. I wouldnt mind seeing Barrett

Re: bruce4life's mock draft....1.0
Nice I love all the feedback that I am receiving. I just see glenn dorsey as the cant miss prospect in this draft as well as Jake Long but I do not want to pick an OT when Barron can play the position strong. Dorsey's names was brought up last year at top pick considerations. Was Chris Long's or Vernan GHolstons???
Also what do you guy's think about Chauncey Washington? I am a big USC fan so I watch him every game, do you guys think he would slip to round 6?

Re: bruce4life's mock draft....1.0
I am a huge USC fan as well Bruce, but I think the Rams would be better off drafting a RB with breakaway speed if they drafted one at all. It'd be a nice change of pace from all of the other backs on the roster.

Re: bruce4life's mock draft....1.0
i really dont like it
we need to get a decent DE in this draft otherwise the Rams pass rush is going to be lacking even more than last year. If anything we need two DEs. One who can start and one who can come in as a pass rush specialist
