Bucs will Release CB Darrelle Revis

" ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Bucs will release Darrelle Revis by 4 PM ET Wednesday if they can't find a trade partner. The Tampa Bay Times has confirmed the report. Tampa Bay isn't going to pay Revis his astronomical $16 million salary, even if he is arguably the best corner in the game. None of the money in Revis' contract is guaranteed, so the Bucs will clear a boat load of cap room by moving on from him. Revis will have no shortage of suitors once he hits the open market. We don't expect a trade at this point."

    - Rotoworld

We obviously seem to be on the CB market. I'd rather go out and pay the best CB in the league 10 mill a year than a guy like Verner who's only had 1 good year. I see a legit chance and reason to go after Revis who is the best and most versatile CB in the game. He'd literally shut down one side of the field (the best WR on the opposing team) and allow us to focus on other guys.

I'm all in! Make it happen Jeff!

I'd rather pay the CB. I love Byrd as much as the next guy but not many can impact a game/defense like Revis can. He can legitimately change the way a defense plays with his ability. If we couldn't land Revis my next target would be Byrd.

Think I'd rather have Byrd and draft a 3rd corner. Cheaper and younger.

I'd love Revis on our team, just not sure how we'd be able to pay him. Just imagine the battles that the Rams-Hawks would have with Revis and Sherman talking crap to each other

I think Revis would do a deal for 12 million/year. So if the Rams are as interested as they apparently are in Verner (who will get at least 10 million/year) you may as well pony up a little more and get the best CB in the game, the sure thing.

Fair. I still want Byrd too!

    In my order:

    1) Revis
    2) Byrd
    3) Verner

...But at the end of the day I'd be ecstatic with any of them as they all classify as "elite" in my book.

The question is the contract. If he wants the $16 million, no. If he wants $8-$10 million, I could see that move. Draft a S, there's several good ones, and invest in the O line in the draft.

There's a lot of teams out there with lots more cap room. I think we won't get into a bidding war for him, so I'd put our chances pretty low even if the front office is interested.

Revis makes $13 million in salary, and i doubt he takes a pay cut. And IS he the best still?

Darrelle Revis makes 16 million a year... And he has no choice but to take a pay cut. If any other team would offer him that same deal they would simply trade a late round pick to the Buccaneers so they lock him down instead of getting into a bidding war and potentially not landing him.

    I'm good on Revis.

    I would rather see
    1) Byrd
    2) Verner
    3) TJ Ward
    4) Draft pick

Revis isn't worth it for us because where he is at and where we are at as a franchise. Could be a better match for another team though.

I agree on Byrd, but I don't see it really with Verner. He is still a very good player and I'd be excited with him but he's not shutdown, he is a better zone corner than he is in man, and he's only had 1 good year where he was on the verge of being cut and suddenly balls out. That's pretty skeptical. There is more worry to Verner in my eyes than Revis.

I just want a good safety so whoever we line up at Corner won't have to be 10 yards deep!

Gregg Williams tends to do man to man with his blitz packages but Verner's good year was with Williams as coach so go figure. Still if what you say holds true then there might be cause for concern. Good player wrong system is a shot in the foot for the new team.
