    BUTLER done deal?

Nick Coats with the St Louis Dispatch reports:

It took a bit longer than originally expected, but according to league sources, the Rams and free-agent strong safety James Butler have come to terms. An announcement from Rams Park is expected today.

Butler will sign a four-year contract that, with incentives, could be worth $17 million, sources indicated.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Butler is expected to step into the lineup in the spot that Corey Chavous occupied the past three seasons. Chavous, who remained stout against the run but regressed in pass coverage because of declining speed, was released Jan. 13. At 27, Butler is six years younger than Chavous.

They haven't contacted the league yet due to the salary cap situation. Rumor has it that if they report this now, the Rams would be over the cap. Thus, something is stewing on the Holt/Pace situation at Rams Park.

Not sure, probably both at the same time. This signing solidifies a youth movement that has been desperately needed by this team. Butler can tackle, and is less of a liability in coverage than say Roy Williams.

We all know that Holt is sadly on his way out. Maybe something is in the works I am on pins and needles right now. I can not wait to hear what has happened.

Less of a liability in the locker room too. All things considered, signing Butler is a very good move.
