Center Jeff Faine wants to be among league's highest paid
A tidbit from an ESPN article about two Saints linemen resigning with the club...
I know some people out there were interested in him, but he might price himself out of being one of our options. I really think former Chiefs center Casey Wiegmann is going to be a Ram when it's all said and done. He'd be a stop gap starter until the Rams can find a center of the future. Though he'll turn 35 this summer, he hasn't missed a game since 2001 and he knows Saunders. That's probably a formula for Rams interest.Talks have been stalled with center Jeff Faine, who is trying to be one of the highest paid centers in the league. Like Nesbit and Goodwin, Faine is scheduled to be a free agent Friday and if no deal is reached, Faine could leave. The Saints protected themselves at center with the re-signing of Goodwin and kept the left side of the line intact with the re-signing of Nesbit.

Yeah, definitely no on the Jeff Faine, buy Wiegman sounds like a good option, as he could help out the linemen already here in digesting Saunders' playbook

Wiegman is a great option for us as of right now. Faine, I never had hope for. Whatever happened to playing for the love of the game.

Wiegman will be a decent but also cheaper pick up, and the Saunders connection is a good one which could bring him our way

Re: Center Jeff Faine wants to be among league's highest paid
It will be tough for this team to land the top of the line high priced free agents. Time to bargain shop for good talent with less demand for cash. I could go for KC's center even though he's 35. Lineman tend to still be able to play well into their late thirties. This is why I'm not that worried about Pace he's only 32. If we can land Wiegmann and maybe a second tier guard in free agency we dont have to draft Jake Long if Chris is gone. We can go after Jacob Bell of Tennesee or Jake Scott of Indy both of whom will come a lot cheaper than Faneca. There are several guards to choose from besides those two as well like, Rex Hadnot Mia, Justin Smiley SF, Damien woody DET, and Floyd Womak SEA. No reaseon to over spend on Faneca or Faine when their are guys who come a lot cheaper and will offer solid play at those two positions.
