I'll be in the minority and say yes, let's take a look at him. He still has the physical tools. Remember, he went from one of the easiest if not the easiest offense to the hardest in the NFL.
Reasoning for Pro-Ocho:
-The Rams offense happens to be close to what Cincy was (Simplicity for Bradford).
-We have a coaching staff willing to take chances to make the team better.
-He can come cheap (restructured his contract to 900k or so, may take vet min.)
-Contrary to popular belief, he is not a cancer like other 'Divas' ; he has proven to be a great teammate recently.
-Would make an excellent Wr for Brian Quick to learn from.
-Possibly brings a little bit of star power to the Rams for more tickets, along with his endorsement deals (Business standpoint)
-He is great for the community; routinely gives free gifts, dinners etc to random people in the area.
-He won't be expected by the fans to be a 14 TD 1200 + Yard WR like he was expected in New England.
-Pretty freakin' durable throughout his career. With our streak of Wr injuries, why not take him?
-Amendola / Salas / Alexander will all likely be injured at one time or maybe multiple injuries at a time, do we want a repeat of last year stunting Bradford's growth again?
-Did I mention he will be able to come cheap? Whats a mill or less? Nothing for the Rams to have the potential to make Bradford return to his rookie numbers or better.
He was cut by the Patriots for a reason. He is done.
I still remember when the Pats signed Ocho and Haynesworth, and everyone wondered how they could be stopped, as they were now the ultimate of ultimate teams. Neither one could earn playing time, Haynesworth in a terrible defense, and Ocho in a passing game that had no real downfield threat. Neither lasted until season two (Frankly, given his struggled, I'm surprised Ocho lasted til the end of the season). I think it's safe to say those guys are done.
Teams like the patriots rarely let players go before they are in serious decline, it's what keeps them on top of the game. Knowing when a guy can still contribute, and when it is time to cut ties and move on. They are one of the teams that, once they cut a guy (as opposed to leaving for more money, as they do underpay), it should throw up some serious red flags over their ability to play football.
yeah they should sign him. He has experience, and he fits our system.
The Pats aren't the end all be all to knowing when a player is done. It's quite simple he just didn't fit into their system. He's in my book still considered a #1 receiver, and he's never been a problem to a team. You can't find a player who can say something bad about him as a team mate.
Why take away valuable reps from young growing ascending players by signing a 34 year old guy. Ochocinco may possibly have a bit of gas left in the tank, but I'd rather we find out what we've got with the guys we have. I expect Fish and Snead would too ..
Not sure why people automatically assume that any veteran brought in and/or already on the team will immediately go and help and mentor the rookies.
Not all older players have that personality, or the desire to be a mentor for that matter. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they hazed/gave the rookies crap instead, as like a initiation to the locker room brotherhood.
In a word: No!
Next question please.
'Cinco couldn't ever get a grasp on the Patriot's complex playbook, so let's have him come in and try to learn our comprehensive playbook. Logic?
Come on guys, this isn't Madden.
McDaniels arrives and Eight-Five is shown the door. PASS!
I don't think he is even worth a look, and here is why.
It is not his personality or because he is a diva. Actually at his point in his career, I doubt he will be a cancer.
However, He played for Belichick and had Brady as a QB and couldn't put up any numbers. I really do think he is washed up. Doesn't have much to offer, especially a team like ours where we are young and trying to grow.
Ocho has signed a one year deal with the Dolphins!!!
This makes me so angry I could puke! When will the Rams wake up and start signing overpriced aging divas who don't produce on the field and cause locke rroom problems simply because their name carries "star" power!?!?! I am so sick of watching all these other teams snatch up washed up old star who can't contribute after washed up old star who can't contribute! New regime, same result! This has to change NOW.
