I know he's old, but he said he wants to move to safety to prolong his career. He's a FA, i like the sound of Champ and OJ roaming the secondary waiting to make plays.

I don't think it makes much sense for the Rams. You'd be asking Atogwe to move to SS, and then you'd probably have to pay Bailey a premium to make a position shift himself.
I'm not sure we'd have to pay a premium for the position shift, as Bailey said he would consider it anyway to prolong his career.
I'm saying Bailey is likely going to command a pretty penny if he hits the open market, and we'd be paying that for a guy who is going to be switching positions. Even if that's appealing to you, it would require Atogwe to move to strong safety where he isn't as good a fit.
I'd rather just find a young SS we can depend on long-term.
CB's and Safeties can be pretty interchangeable between college and the NFL and as star CB's get slower. Aeneus Williams made the shift to Safety pretty well, if you remember. So, do I think he can make it work, definitely. Do I think we should grab him? No. Not at all. Atogwe is a free safety, and that's where he needs to stay. He's NOT made to be a strong safety, playing up in the box. He plays center field just like Champ will. I think Dawan Landry is becoming a free agent from Baltimore. I would target him if they let him go.
all in price
Nick, my man, how/why do you feel that O.J. is not a good fit at SS???
Rich, I have to disagree, let's first look at this years pro bowl SS shall we:
NFC: Adrian Wilson, 31yrs. 6'3" 230lbs.
AFC: Troy Polamalu, 29yrs. 5'10" 207lbs.
(last years SS were: Wilson, B. Dawkins (Broncos), Y.Bell(Dolphins), Q. Mikell(Eagles)
Oshiomogho Atogwe, 29yrs. 5'11" 205lbs.
You mentioned "skill sets" & "age", well all of these guys have similar "skill sets". In regards to Wilson, Polamalu, and Atogwe all 3 guys are heat seeking missles when it comes to big hits, & are gifted when it comes to having a nose for the ball(Wilson not as much as the other 2). Wilson and O.J. are both liabilities in the passing game, but are wonderful when it comes to run support. Troy is a wonderful all around safety, but does miss tackles at times & has injury issues due in part to his style of play. Either way given the facts there is not a huge difference between the players & O.J. has played both safety spots in the past already(if memory serves me correct).
