Chiefs complete trade for Cassel
The Kansas City Chiefs have found their starting quarterback. NFL Network’s Adam Schefter reports the Chiefs acquired QB Matt Cassel from the New England Patriots in a trade on Saturday.
The teams have agreed on compensation, according to Schefter, but no details of the deal were immediately available.
Cassel was designated as the Patriots’ franchise player on Feb. 5, guaranteeing him $14.65 million next season. The signed tender was officially submitted to the league earlier this week.
Cassel saw the first significant action of his career last season, taking over for the injured Tom Brady in Week 2 and starting 15 games, completing 63.4 percent of his passes for 3,693 yards and 21 touchdowns with 11 interceptions.
Cassel will see some familiar faces in Kansas City. Schefter also reports Patriots linebacker Mike Vrabel was in Kansas City on Friday undergoing a physical so that he can then be traded to the Chiefs. Vrabel later confirmed the trade in an email to The Boston Globe. Cassel and Vrabel will be playing for new Chiefs GM Scott Pioli, who was hired in January to oversee the team’s football operations after nine seasons in New England.

whats this got to do with the rams
Re: Chiefs complete trade for Cassel
It's in the draft and fa forum. It it was about the Rams, it would be in the rams talk forum.
It now looks like the Chiefs are getting Cassel and Vrabel for the 34th overall pick.

*whistles*
Either Kraft's doing Pioli a big favor or the Pats are in salary dump mode. I would have thought that KC's 1st and a collection of mid or late rounders would have been in the deal.
Re: Chiefs complete trade for Cassel
I thought this was for Rams FA and draft I thought NFL talk was for other teams
my mistake
Re: Chiefs complete trade for Cassel
I guess we'll get to see if Cassel is all he's cracked up to be. Personally, I have my doubts.
Re: Chiefs complete trade for Cassel
So Sanchez falls even farther, huh?
Re: Chiefs complete trade for Cassel
I dont think Sanchez was going to go top 10. I think he falls to the jets unless someone trades up. Maybe detroit from 20.
Re: Chiefs complete trade for Cassel
Forget Sanchez, this may mean Stafford will fall even farther (niners?). Granted this is the season for misinformation, but signs seem to point toward Detroit picking either Curry or an OT.
Re: Chiefs complete trade for Cassel
Yea i mean stafford should fall pretty far too. Maybe mangini will take him because he went to team where he doesn't like anyone on the team.

This may really hurt the Rams actually, say a guy like James Laurantis falls, The pats may snag him before us.
Re: Chiefs complete trade for Cassel
I'm ok with this because I think Cassel is going to suck without one of the best o-lines and without Moss and Welker running those quick screens allgame long. My bet is he's a backup or out of the league by 2010.

I didn't even think about that. They would totally take him in the second.

I would have been SHOCKED if KC traded the third overall pick for Cassel. I think the 34th pick is actually pretty appropriate. It's hard for a team to trade more based on one year of NFL production on a talented team, but the Patriots also get value that's fairly close to the first rounder they were asking for.

Exactly, I'll be interested to see how he does in KC. The opposition will likely be weaker, but there's less talent around him.

Sanchez is going to fall regardless, IMO. If Detroit passes on Stafford, then it's Matt who's going to be in for a slip.
Re: Chiefs complete trade for Cassel
If the Lions pass on Stafford, some team is going to get him at a bargain unless someone trades up. Great value for the Chiefs, IMO.
