Cornerback Cromartie on the trading block?
By Kevin Acee
Posted 2:24 p.m. Monday March 2, 2009
The Chargers will put cornerback Antonio Cromartie on the trading block if they acquire Drayton Florence, according to league sources.
That would complete a remarkable circle for the two players. Cromartie replaced Florence as a starter in 2007.
After Cromartie made a team-record 10 interceptions in '07, Florence was allowed to leave via free agency. He signed a six-year, $36 million contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars. But he was released last month and notified the Chargers through his agent he would like to return. The sides are talking now.
Cromartie suffered a serious slide in production in 2008. He suffered a hip injury in the season opener and had just two interceptions. If he is not traded, 2009 is considered a make-or-break year for him with the Chargers.
Chargers General Manager A.J. Smith would neither confirm nor deny his plans regarding the two cornerbacks.

Antonio Cromartie Played Season With A Broken Hip
January 13, 2009
Total Pro Sports - That's right the title is not wrong San Diego Chargers, Antonio Cromartie Played the entire season with a Broken Hip. Believe if it's even possible to handle and play through the pain with a broken hip? It was done by Antonio Cromartie who is officially a machine.
Some athletes cant play with a broken finger and this kid played with a broken hip? He is well worth the money he is earning.
Cromartie as a rookie was outstanding for the Chargers, drafted in the first round, 19th overall he had 10 interceptions and 1 touchdown. In his second season this year with the Chargers his number fell drastically, only 2 interceptions and 1 touchdown.
Nobody knew what was wrong with Antonio Cromartie until today when he revealed it to the San Diego Union Tribune, that he suffered the injury in the second quarter of the season opener. Cromartie said when asked if he was looking forward to the off season,
It came (too) soon, but I'm definitely looking forward to it mostly to get my body back in shape, get back healthy and be able to play like I'm supposed to play.Thankfully this puts down to rest that Antonio Cromartie is just not another NFL first rounder having an outstanding rookie season and then completely falling off the next season.
Hopefully next year he comes back and puts all his doubters to shame.

Re: Cornerback Cromartie on the trading block?
If he played THE WHOLE SEASON with a broken hip, wow. That's a stud. Mans Game. He can play for me anytime, I wanted to draft him when he came out. I mean think about it, outside of the RB who uses their hips more? The spinning and twisting that the CB's have to do and he played with a broken hip?
Tye Hill, are you reading this? Step your game up if you are.

Re: Cornerback Cromartie on the trading block?
He has good size, speed, and has a season with 10 picks. When he was coming out in 2006 they were saying he was a guy that could cover a Terrell Owens with his size. They were also saying when he came out that if he did not cut it as a CB he could be a WR because he played that position and has excellent hands. I think that him having good hands proved correct with the 10 picks. Most CB's are CB's because they dont have good hands but thats not the case with Cromartie.
Cromartie (will be just 25 this year)
6'2 210 (4.44 40) 44 inch vertical jump
Imagine this defensive backfield:
Cromartie 6'2 210
Bartell 6'1 210
Butler 6'3 215
Atogwe 5'11 210
All of them weigh 210 or more and are 5'11 or taller. We could definently match up with the bigger receivers and they would have a tough time throwing jump balls to receivers.Last edited by RamsSB99; -03-02-2009 at 10:47 PM.

Re: Cornerback Cromartie on the trading block?
He would be a great addition, but after just locking up Bartell, possibly locking up OJ, along with the addition of a new SS I'm not sure we will have the money to extend Cromartie, who's rookie deal ends the same year as Hill. Love to have him, but it may not make sense dollar wise.

Re: Cornerback Cromartie on the trading block?
I may be wrong but I think his current contract is for two more years and only costs about 2.5 million a year. Seems fairly affordable for the talent level.
Besides... there is no cap after this year so we can spend like the government when his contract is up.

Re: Cornerback Cromartie on the trading block?
I really doubt that he's going to be put up on the block after one down year. Who else do they even have?

I read on Rotoworld that the Chargers would reportedly put Antonio Cromartie on the trade block if they're able to sign free agent Drayton Florence.
