Cortland Finnegan - DB - Dolphins

Cortland Finnegan - DB - Dolphins

Dolphins agreed to terms with CB Cortland Finnegan to a two-year contract.
Finnegan was awful for the Rams in seven appearances last season and almost as bad during the 2012 campaign. The Dolphins are hoping that was due to a thigh injury and not because he's lost a couple steps at age 30. It's a risky signing, but one that shouldn't be too expensive. If Finnegan can rebound to anywhere in the vicinity of his All-Pro 2008 form, he'll fit nicely with Brent Grimes.

Just need to get the number so we can see what we get back in cap!

The link in the article on NFL.com says 2 years 11 million (or around there). Links to Breer's twitter account.

I'd be absolutely amazed if he got that kind of money. That has to be a type with an extra "1" right? Geez...I guess we'll see if that's true or not. Right now it's the infamous "source" so until it's confirmed who knows.

Not sad to see him go, but I do hope the best for him. Good luck in Miami.

Cortland Finnegan - DB - Dolphins

NFL.com's Albert Breer reports the "word is" that Cortland Finnegan's two-year deal with the Dolphins is worth $11 million.
Oh my. As former Rotoworlder Gregg Rosenthal put it on Twitter, "Finnegan should be getting calls from other players that want him to be their agent." Finnegan negotiated his own contract. He got new Dolphins GM Dennis Hickey to agree to an Ireland-esque deal for a declining veteran who was literally one of the worst corners in the league last season. Finnegan has an excellent track record, but that doesn't really matter when you're on the wrong side of 30 and coming off a calamitous year. Finnegan also struggled in 2012. The Dolphins are banking on Finnegan turning back time.

Cort represented himself and did well! That adds 3 mil to our cap.

Isn't that 3m contingent on what his guaranteed money or signing bonus is, not just his salary? If he gets cut in training camp and he hasn't collected a bonus or didn't have guaranteed money, then he hasn't collected money for the offset.

    Thoughts?

I think it's when he signs elsewhere. When ink is on the paper we get the 3M relief. Plus I think he has his postcareer job ready.......agent.

I think you are right. Either it must be guaranteed or he has to make the roster. Most likely, some portion of that is guaranteed. No details on the contract and it might be $3 million this year and $8 million in year two - who knows. But you'd think a portion would be guaranteed for such a veteran.

Best of luck Finny hope you do well. But I'm not overly sad to see him go after what we saw last year.

Never was a big fan before Rams during Rams and after Rams. Glad he signed elsewhere.

Yeah it looks like you got it right.

On Finnegan offset language for $3 million bonus. If the $3 million comes from his base salary only, he must make 53 man roster.

That doesn't have to be the case, however for Rams to get $3 million back if it comes in bonuses or guaranteed money.

I doubt that he'll even make the team unless its to play nickle.

If Master P and Jay-Z could do it, how hard could this agent thing be?
