Crazy (or maybe not so crazy) Double-Trade Idea

Here's an idea so crazy it just might work.

Rams trade the No. 2 overall pick to Atlanta for their first round (No. 6) and second round (No. 37), and a 2015 third round pick. Atlanta makes this trade to get Jadeveon Clowney after Houston takes a QB (or Khalil Mack).

Rams then trade the No. 6 pick to Detroit for their first round (No 10) and second round (No. 45) picks. Detroit does this to get Sammy Watkins before Tampa can grab him at No. 7.

This gives the Rams the 10th, 13th, 37th, 44th and 45th picks in the draft. With those selections, the Rams could end up with (for example):

    1(10): Taylor Lewan, OT, Michigan
    1(13): Hasean Clinton-Dix, FS, Alabama
    2(37): David Yankey, OG, Stanford
    2(44): Jason Verrett, CB, TCU
2(45): Ryan Shazier, OLB, Ohio State

    I could live with that!

If we made those trades I'd be happy. Given how deep this draft is, I think it would be smart to get an extra pick or two in the second round. Past that, I imagine the only change I would make is to get a tall, "go get 'em" WRs. But that's minor.

That is my dream trade down scenario with our #2. Been going back and forth on using that in the current mock I have been working on. My picks would be different. Would use #10 on Dennard/Gilbert and #13 on Pryor/Clinton-Dix. But thats not what this thread is about.

Love this trade down scenario, just not sure if it will happen or not.

I could also live with those selections, but there's one twist:

The Falcons actually select Sammy Watkins and its screen-o-mania in the ATL! I can see it now...

Well, I guess that kind of messes up the second portion of the trades...dang

That is a crazy whackey scenario, but I love it! Good thoughts there and I have been thinking more and more we make two trade backs so you cover that theory perfectly. I just thought we would or might trade both 1st rounders back... Verrett is not my fave CB in this draft but hey he fills a need for sure. Nicely done AvR!

Surely, it's a scenario that Snead could execute. He's got the track record where other teams around the league won't hesitate to pick up the call and negotiate a fair deal. Luckily for us, we have a young team that isn't one playmaker away from becoming contenders, so adding depth on the offensive line would be a plus with this draft. Yankey at #37 overall may be a steal if he reaches his potential early. We've missed out on so many good guard prospects over the last few years.

Re: Crazy (or maybe not so crazy) Double-Trade Idea

I think that a double trade back, a la 2011, is very possible if we do the ol' 2-6 swap again. The reasoning is this: the "elite" players are Matthews, Robinson, Watkins, Mack, Clowney and then the three main QB's. Even if only one QB is taken between 1-5, one of those elite players ends up sitting there at 6, who could command another set of picks if we trade back again, and we would still have the Vikings at 8 leery of a QB selection at 7 by Tampa.

As eric mentioned above, Snead has shown an ability to get deals done with multiple teams high in the draft. If we see the potential to stock our roster during this deep draft, I think he'll be able to get us those extra picks.

On a side note, because this draft is regarded so deep, do you think it's likely that we might score more future year picks than picks this year?
    I believe!

Re: Crazy (or maybe not so crazy) Double-Trade Idea

Is it possible for us to go 2-4, then 4-6?

That would give the possibility to take one of the top 6 guys, and either use our 13 + those picks in the trade to move up and get another, or just stay put.

    I love trade scenarios lol.
