Did the Rams dodge a couple of bullets on draft day?

Reports from the Rams war room made it clear that the top 2 players on the Rams draft board were Trent Richardson and Justin Blackmon.

Since then, Blackmon has put himself on the NFL's bad conduct radar after receiving yet another DUI. Now, it is being reported that Trent Richardson is going to Dr. James Andrews to have an evaluation of his knee problem, which has persisted.

While both players may have great NFL careers, I have to say that I'm glad that the Rams don't have to deal with these issues right now.

    Maybe our luck is changing.

And Claiborne tweaked his knee as well.

And IIRC, didn't the Rams lose Jackson, Bartell and Amendola in the first game last year?

    I mean , Really?

Things don't look great for Blackmon. Missed a ton of time in training camp, very far behind. DUI arrest. Lengthy contract dispute. Pretty happy with the way things turned out right now!

Blackmon seems to be the big one to me. As Sosa said, he had a DUI and then a protracted hold-out, the only one of the 1st rounders I believe. Not the best way to start an NFL career.

As far as Richardson, time will tell. The current surgery is a minor clean-up. Still, the more surgeries on the knee, no matter how minor, the more you become concerned with durability. The Browns have had as bad of luck as we have in terms of that kind of stuff. I hope for their sake he turns out just fine.

It's nice that the Rams don't have to deal with these types of issues now, but only time will tell if this organization dodged a bullet by not landing either of these guys.

Right now, the news for Blackmon and Richardson isn't positive, but if both go on to have great pro careers, I doubt their respective fanbases will stay hung up on the summer of their rookie seasons. On the flip side, if neither become the players their organizations expect them to, then this could be viewed as a starting point for where things may have gone off-track.

It's important to keep in mind that no one - Richardson, Blackmon, or any of the Rams' selections - has played a down of professional football yet. So it all just depends on how things develop over the next couple of years.

Lets wait until one of these guys plays an NFL game let alone a pre season game before we write them off. You also never know if Blackmon would've gotten a DUI in a different situation in a different city with a different organization. Maybe if Blaine Gabbert wasn't his quarterback he wouldn't feel the need to drink.

I'm not writing these guys off by any means. However, right now, when the Rams need some hope and positive energy, I'm glad that their are not dealing with a top pick who is having surgery or dealing with criminal charges.

Shame all those doubters were right about Jenkins being a headcase. Oh wait, he has been a great rookie, quiet off the field and is in position to start!!

Of ALL the things I'm wrong about (it's got to be so many, I've had to start a journal), the one I'm happiest about is Jenkins.
