Disappointing workout for Ted Ginn Jr.?

    This is from Rotoworld:

Ted Ginn ran three forties in the 4.38-4.42 range at his Pro Day Wednesday, according to Scout.com.

Ginn reportedly ran six routes during pass-catching drills and fell on five of them before the workout was called off. We've confirmed that it's been raining in Columbus, but no other explanation for the slips has been given. Ginn had been struggling with a sprained foot.
Doesn't sound good if he wanted to cement that mid first round value. NFLDC's Scott Wright confirms that he's heard Ginn did not look great in positional drills either.

Yess... let's hope this changes the mind of anyone who had the slightest hope we would draft him. I do NOT want Ginn Jr. in horns.

I was hoping Ginn would occupy a top 12 spot, increasing the chances one of the guys on our short list would fall to us. Looks a little iffy now.

Well, i agree with Smizz and Mike. Would be nice if he could be a filler for our guy (who ever is the best on the D side) to slip to us.

    Prediction:

There will be at least 2-3 WRs taken in after the first round this year who will have better careers than Ginn.

I live in Ohio about two hours away from Columbus and it has not just been raining but snowing also and coming off the sprained foot did not help either

We still have to play half of our games outside the Ed Jones Dome, and not all those games are going to be indoors. If he's just going to slip every time theres a little moisture on the ground, of what use is he??

Hmm, interesting, could this make him drop to the second round, Nick?

Re: Disappointing workout for Ted Ginn Jr.?

Here is an update from Rotoworld:

NFL.com's Gil Brandt reports Ted Ginn ran 20 routes at his Pro Day.
An earlier report counted six, and Brandt doesn't mention Ginn "falling" despite the rain in Columbus. He says Ginn had to stop running the routes because of his sore foot. It's pretty amazing that Ginn ran in the 4.3s while injured in the rain. Head coaches in attendance were Scott Linehan (Rams), Cam Cameron (Dolphins), and Marvin Lewis (Bengals). The Rams and 'Fins brought their personnel people to the workout.

Ted Ginn Jr. (mid-foot sprain) ran three forties in the 4.38-4.41 range at his Pro Day Wednesday, according the Columbus Dispatch.
Scout.com reported that Ginn ran six routes in pass-catching drills and fell on five before the workout was called off. We've confirmed that it's been raining in Columbus, so that's a possible explanation. Rams head coach Scott Linehan was impressed nonetheless: "Even not probably 100 percent, he still ran faster than most guys. So I think he's just fine."

Re: Disappointing workout for Ted Ginn Jr.?

The speeds are respectable. Sore ankle but also a fast Ohio State track. In the end the numbers don't live up to the hype, and whether or not they would on a healthy ankle is unknown. But speed was never the question with Ginn.

The bigger issue is that it's been over three months since the mid-foot sprain in the national championship game, and it's still hindering him so much that he can't cut in routes without slipping and falling. Durability has gone from a question mark to a major red flag, IMO.

For me, the only way it would make any sense to even consider a guy like Ginn would be if (1) the Rams obtain Jenkins, (2) they do so without giving up their #2, which MUST then be used on a pass rusher.

Even then, I wouldn't take him, but at least it would be a gamble that would not be entirely illogical.

I think he held it inside, on a fast track.

Re: Disappointing workout for Ted Ginn Jr.?

Great Blue North has some additional information:

There was an interesting debate around today following up on Ohio State WR Ted Ginnís private workout on Wednesday. Did he help himself; or hurt himself; and whether he should have worked out at all if he wasnít totally healthy were among the pertinent issues. In the end it appears to be something of a wash. According to his father, Ginn, who has been rehabbing a foot injury since early January, is still only about 75-80% healthy, was timed in the 4.40 range running three 40s at his workout at Columbus. That was something of a disappointing time, though, for who was hoping to time under 4.30. Still, the reaction of more than one team appears to have been that running a 4.40 when he clearly wasnít 100% was impressive in its own right. In fact, all 32 teams in the league know that Ginn is fast; indeed, he may be the fastest player in the 2007 draft class. What Ginn wasnít able to do was run and cut running routes and that may hurt him in the eyes of teams that are concerned about Ginnís lack of polish as a receiver. In fact, there were a number of teams that reportedly have politely inquired about Ginnís potential as a CB. Ginn actually came to Ohio State as a highly-recruited defensive back and has reportedly said that he actually prefers that side of the ball. There has also been some variation in reports as to how many teams were actually represented in Columbus at Ginnís workout. Early reports suggested that just about every team was there, however, other reports have put the number in the 15-16 range. One team that definitely was there was St. Louis. Despite the fact that the Rams had several other high-profile prospects in St. Louis for visits on Wednesday, the Rams chartered a plane and flew a full contingent to Columbus including head coach Scott Linehan, offensive coordinator Greg Olson, and receivers coach Henry Ellard, as well as VP of player personnel Tony Softli . The Rams have the 13th pick overall, about where Ginn is rated on many pre-draft value boards, and could be looking to add some fresh legs. Meanwhile, Ginn will reportedly work out privately for at least one other team Ė believed to be Washington - early next week. According to his father, though, Ginn is still anywhere from 6 weeks to 3 months away from being able to go full out.
Still a month and a half to three months from being 100%? Wow.

drafting ginn makes absolutley no sense..you cant use your #1 on a gamebreaking KR and decent WR..theres way too many other needs..thats like the jets pick a kicker(nugent) in first round thinking they were a Vinatieri away from beating pats and going to Sb..stupid...i dont care if we even get jenkins via trade...all defense first 2 picks!!!
