Do the Rams need a 1st round WR?
I keep hearing all these AJ Green rumors and Sam Bradford "needing" a #1 WR. Itz only been 3 games so far and it seems like Bradford is spreading the ball around pretty well. However i do not think Bradford needs a Larry Fitz or Calvin Johnson type WR.
I think this year we should focus our 1st rounder on a Defensive Lineman. Spags did not draft Chris Long so i think we should get a Spags type D-lineman instead of a WR. Because it seems like are Defense is solid we just need a pass rush.
I think we should focus our attention to these 3 D-Lineman:
Robert QUinn DE, NC
Greg Romeus DE, Iowa
Jarrell Casey DT, USC
Quinn and Casey are Juniors.
How do you feel about DL vs. WR as our 1st round pick?

Re: Do the Rams need a 1st round WR?
I put Robert Quinn on the same talent level of "can't miss" prospects as A.J. Green. However I also put Patrick Paterson from LSU on that list. So if you can flip a three sided coin. We do need all three of those positions.

Re: Do the Rams need a 1st round WR?
WR, DE, DT are all pretty big holes for us. At this point I think we should go wherever the value is among those 3.
If the identity of the Rams is going to be Bradford, though, we need to get a true #1 WR. I'll leave it up to Devaney and company to determine whether we can find one at the top of Round 2.

Re: Do the Rams need a 1st round WR?
bradford is spreading the ball because he doesn't really have a choice. every other game one or two of his receivers are inactive from injuries. you keep hearing these aj green rumors because since high school him and julio jones have been on another level as far as receivers go. did you see the raiders game, when the raiders dbs were glued to the rams wrs all game? mainly because outside of clayton (who was covered by asomougha the majority of the game) there was no receiver the raiders respected enough to not play bump and run. green and jones gets open pretty routinely.
by no means does bradford "need" a go to receiver in order to be successful, but the rule of thumb is you don't pass on the best player available and aj green or julio jones will probably be that at season end.
spags is a defensive minded coach, i would expect for him to think highly enough of his coaching ability to get anyone to play in his system and be successful. quinn is no doubt a beast but with the nc scandal, red flags go off in the character regards. and i think you're talking about adrian clayborn from iowa or you meant romeus was from pitt. either way, defensive end is a strength in this year's draft. a bunch are projected first rounders, but i can see us snagging an allen bailey in the 2nd.

Re: Do the Rams need a 1st round WR?
Peyton Manning and Drew Brees spread the ball around pretty well, too. But I'm sure they're pretty happy that they have legit #1 receivers in Wayne and Colston.
Right now, the Rams do not have a legitimate #1 receiver that opposing teams have to gameplan for. Think of how much more effective our passing options would be if defenses had to shift their coverage in one direction to account for a dangerous receiver.
So I think the Rams could certainly benefit from a #1 receiver. Do they have to spend a first round pick on the guy? Well, no. But their odds of finding one probably decrease the longer they wait in the draft, so there's that to consider.
I don't think fans should lock themselves into this mindset that WR is the only way to go in round one. If the value isn't there or if something happens in free agency, look another direction. As you have pointed out, there could be some worthy defensive prospects available as well. But I don't think they should be removing WR from the radar any time soon either.

Re: Do the Rams need a 1st round WR?
I don't think so....
I think we need athletic play-makers on both sides of the ball. We have a OLine and QB now we need freak-atheltic types anywhere we can find them, not necessarily just WR.
WE need a flavor-full draft, because right now the Rams are too Vanilla

Re: Do the Rams need a 1st round WR?
Build around Bradford in first round, pick the best play maker. WR or RB.
After that in second and third round, they can build around JL.

Re: Do the Rams need a 1st round WR?
I think we do. This draft is going to have some good WRs come out and we do need a #1 WR.
Bradford will spread the ball around, but having a good #1 WR forces the other team to double team him which opens up the game for everyone else.
Though hopefully we can sign a good WR in the off season like Jackson or someone.

Re: Do the Rams need a 1st round WR?
The way I look at it, the strategy is as follows:
Grade the top WRs and pass rushing DL in the draft.
When the Rams make their first round pick, take the highest ranked player from that group still on the board.
In Round 2, take the best player remaining at the other position.
Round 3 - backup RB.
Rounds 4-7: BPA
My "the U" early special:
Round 1: Allen Bailey, DE (6'4, 285)
Round 2: Leonard Hankerson, WR (6'3, 205)
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

Re: Do the Rams need a 1st round WR?
I wouldn't mind a G, WR, DT/DE or HB in the first round. Whichever seems to be the best move come the end of the season after initial free agency hits.
Best player available seems fine by me
GO RAMS!

Re: Do the Rams need a 1st round WR?
Depending on where we pick Julio Jones might be the type of player we need.
After he broke his hand against South Carolina in the first quarter he went on to catch 7 more passes for 104 yards and a td.
If we can't keep players healthy we are going to need to get some that can play hurt.
