Do We Have Enough At RB?

This year confirmed two things about the RB position:

    1. The Rams are a MUCH better team when they run the ball effectively;
    2. Zac Stacy is capable of being a 20+ carry/game feature back.

However, despite Stacy's emergence, I remain concerned that the Rams might need to add more depth at the position. Stacy did get nicked up a few times this year, and while Benny Cunningham did fine as the second back, I'm not convinced that he could be the No. 1 back for an extended period of time.

So... while I don't think the Rams need to look at the RB position on Days 1 and 2 of the draft, I do think they should consider taking a prospect on Day 3.

    Some possible names to consider:

    Antonio Andrews, Western Kentucky
    Storm Johnson, Central Florida
    Tyler Gaffney, Stanford
    James Wilder, Jr., Florida State
    Rajion Neal, Tennessee

Running Backs can be found in any round. Its more important to find someone that is complimentary to Stacy --BC -- We could use a athletic speed guy, they way Pead was supposed to be...

I won't even throw any names out there, because its lower on the need list, and too many RBs are found as UFAs....we just have to be ready to pick em

There are some really good backs in round two, about 6, so if the Rams have some extra picks, they may see some back as too hard to pass up, but it's more likley they ignore the position.

Does this mean that Fisher still has faith in Richardson and Pead?

Interesting that you say that. Just last night, as I was watching Tre Mason tear up the Seminoles defense, I found myself thinking, "you know... if we had an extra second round pick..."

Then I reminded myself that the Rams waited until Round 5 last year before pulling the trigger on Stacy, and I went back to scouting DBs and OL.

The answer to the original question is "No", we don't have enough at RB to ignore the position.

A question that I've been thinking about as well since we seem to have only 3 "actively used" RB's. Since Pead is a question mark to stay given his 2 year history with the team, sign me up for Tyler Gaffney. He's got size, not speed so he complies with the type of RB we appear to prefer and that enables him to be used in pass protection when needed. Certainly a day 3 guy, but one worth considering.

    Go Rams!

    Yes. I'm Les Snead.

    You didn't know that?

Gotta go now and call back the Redskins. They're offering RGIII in exchange for Michael Brockers, Janoris Jenkins, Isaiah Pead, Alec Ogletree, Stedman Bailey, Zac Stacy and the 2nd pick in this year's draft. I'm thinking its going to be a "no."

Re: Do We Have Enough At RB?

I love the thought of picking up extra picks from trading down would like to get one of the top 6 or 7 backs in this draft so make my choice around 3rd round this time for bigger guy to compliment our smaller guys. And yes it is imperiative we get another back as 3 of our 4 backs were hurt last season and our main man as AvR alluded to was multiple injured and multiple times out of action so we need a viable back up who can block as well as run... IMHO-

Nice to see so many of you guys agree with this sentiment in one form or another, and you have to say Pead is a huge question mark for our team as of right now. When we had all 3 other guys down he still was barely used. That cannot bode well for his chances of returning or so I would guess.

Re: Do We Have Enough At RB?

    Isiah Crowell is my choice.

Tore up the SEC with Georgia as a freshman, but was dismissed after a weapons charge arrest. Played for Alabama state the last couple seasons. Could be had for a 5th/6th probably. I like James White out of Wisconsin as well. Those are just my preferences for a late rounder.

Back to your original topic, i agree we should add a RB depth on day 3.
