Does trading down make more sense?

Let's think about this. Cutler or Bunkley is still available at 11 and Hawk, Huff and Davis are off the board.

Baltimore is sitting at 14 and are in desperate need of both a QB and a DT. Switch 1's with the Ravens, take their 2nd and give them our 3rd.

I wish I could have said I came up with this but I read it somewhere through the mock draft maze and it actually made sense to me.

Have I looked at too many draft sites?

I like the idea of trading down in this draft. After the top tier of defensive players (Hawk, Williams, Huff), I think there is a very deep second tier. If the Rams were to trade down and obtain an extra second round pick, I think they could end up with four very good players on Day 1 of the draft.

So we go from #11 and #77 to #13 and #44?

You bet your sweet Poplar Bluff backside, I'd take that!!!

Falling two places in the first doesn't hurt us in the least, and rising 33 spots into an extra 2nd round pick is a huge boost. This particular year has a ton of value in the 2nd, so the more the merrier.

I agree if huff, hawk and davies are gone a trade down would be good as I think the players that would suit us can be had lower down and we can get extra picks

Baltimore's at 13, and the value for this trade would be heavily in our favor. The Ravens may be willing to do it for Ngata, who they really like as a big body to take up space and allow Ray Lewis to run free. I'm not sure if they do it for Bunkley though, and I doubt they do it for Cutler since Billick said Jay reminds him of Kyle Boller. If Baltimore's willing, I'd do it. I'm just not sure they'd do it.

You're right Nick, that would be heavily weighted in our favor. Maybe I'm missing a step another pick next year or something because when I saw the results it wasn't that far off.

It also had something to do with jumping over Cleveland to get the same player the Browns are targeting in the first round since they are divisional rivals or something.

Forgive me, went to the Spurs/Kings playoff game last night and didn't get home till way past 0 dark 30 and still had to go to work today.

I think I saw the mock you were talking about at Real Football. Their mock has that trade and says:

"The St. Louis Rams trade the 11th overall pick and the 77th pick (third round) to the Baltimore Ravens for No. 13 and 44 (second round.) According to the draft value chart, the Ravens trade away 1610 points for 1455, but it will end up being worth it for both sides."

The Ravens were trading up for Haloti Ngata, and the Rams traded down for Tye Hill. I'm not sure I see the Ravens giving up that much value, but if Ngata falls to 11 and we pass on him, he's 100% a Brown, so the Ravens may in fact be okay with losing the value to jump Cleveland as you said.

Baltimore would love to have Ngata on their side instead of having to against him twice a year if he goes to Cleveland

Depends who is there when we pick at #11. If Huff, Davis, Hawk are gone than possibily yes. Not that far though.

I believe our needs at interior OL and DL are greater than LB and DB. Trading down should address those concerns.

We have starters at interior DL and OL, we dont have a starter at SLB.
Anyway, i see the Rams as being one DT away from having a very good DL, and i wouldnt mind seeing a DT taken in the third or fourth rounds

Sure we have starter at OL....but they better not walk too close to a glue factory...they are very long in the tooth and their best days are long gone.

Then how about we don't trade down and we select Chad Greenway
