Re: Dr. D's Mock Offseason
Not and never have been a fan of taking Colt at the top of the second. I think we can get Lefevour at the top of the third and i think he's better than colt. Id like to see us use that pick on some first round talent that fell to us such as perhaps Gresham, Weatherspoon, Claussen/Bradford (if rainbow's fell from a pig's arse and they fell that far), or maybe even trade that pick to trade back into the first round to pick up Claussen if he strays past pick number 20. I don't think Colt is worth that high a pick IMO and would like to see us go elsewhere.
Re: Dr. D's Mock Offseason
If we go with Suh then I really like this draft.
I especially like the fact that 4 out of your 5 picks were offense.
Having a great defense is nice but in today's nfl even the great defenses can only slow down, not stop, the great offenses. Eventually you have to be able to score at least 20 points a game to stay competitive.
Re: Dr. D's Mock Offseason
Not much to argue with here. I think you've covered the major needs well.
Re: Dr. D's Mock Offseason
Yea I like it but I'm worried that we won't have the luxury of having a capped year, unfortunately.
Re: Dr. D's Mock Offseason
I dont like Colt McCoy, id rather have Dan LeFevour.
Re: Dr. D's Mock Offseason
I like this mock, good job. Especially the o-line picks. Veldheer, Jerry, and Brown on the right side would make for a HUGE mauling run game. Jason Smith and Jacob Bell would make a solid pass protecting duo on the left side too.
I'm not against the Colt McCoy pick. He's a winner, and coming from Texas, I've seen him play a lot. He has the ability to play in the NFL, but he would be best suited in a WCO, which is what we have here. However, I still prefer Canfield and LeFevour, but I prefer McCoy over Pike and Tebow.
Re: Dr. D's Mock Offseason
I am not sure where mccluster is projected in the draft, but i just figured he would be gone at least by the end of the second from what i saw this year. I thought he was spectacular and wouldn't be surprised if he was moving up draft boards.I would actually replace mccoy with dexter and i wouldn't mind one bit getting him at the top of second. I think he is exactly what we need behind SJ.
Overall with the draft and free agency that would be a big step forward for our franchise,IMO.
Re: Dr. D's Mock Offseason
I still would rather see some more defensive picks because I think we're lacking a few key pieces there such as CB and LB, but I do like most of the picks you got here too. Line help will be big and we still might want to snag a WR.
If we're looking for a back up RB in the draft I wonder where Blount might end up falling with his lapse in judgment from earlier this year. He's a pretty legit back and has good people in his corner like Jon Gruden and Tony Dungy.

As of right now, cbs sportsline has McCluster going in the third. However I think he might be a stretch for us in the 3rd round. His stock only continues to move up as he impresses the scouts. I would not mind taking him in the 2nd, but I would rather take Colt. I am not really confident in the other quarterback right now. If we can find a quality quarterback in the 3rd round, I would be all for McCluster in the 2nd.

I think with the additions that I added, we can focus more on the offensive side of the ball. We have Laurinaitis and Chase Blackburn starting at linebacker, with someone on the roster filling out the final slot. As for the secondary I think that when Fletcher comes back from his injury will make a great corner opposite Bartell. With those two at corner and OJ roaming around there too, we would have a pretty good secondary.
I avoided drafting WR since we have too many as it is now. When all our guys come back from IR someone needs to get cut. We needed a quality veteran, which I added in FA. Could we use another talented WR? Sure, but I would rather spend the pick on a position that we need help with, rather then one that we have too many bodies for.
Also you have to remember that I didn't use all our draft picks. I only want into the 5th round, so it is definitely possible for us to pick up more depth on the defensive side of the ball.
If Dexter McCluster were not available, I would definately look at one of four people next. Anthony Dixon, Toby Gerhart, LaGarrette Blount, and Andre Dixon. However I think in reality Anthony Dixon will be gone before the third. All of these guys could spell Jackson, while still giving us that physical dominating run game.
