gonna go with Holt and Bly in 1999 cuz that's the best one i was alive for imo
How about Eric Dickerson and Henry Ellard in 83?
Poll choices now up (both 1983 and 1999 are on the list).
no love for Canadian Bill Hawkins & Cleveland Gary..boo hisssssssss...:D
is hard one to call...Gabriel & Olsen are the most decorated..Robertson & Youngblood great from what ive seen on footage...tho out of those 4 is only Youngblood i am old enough to have seen play for the Rams in live games and i was a pre-teen so wasnt exactly a creditable evaluator of players back then..
so i dont think i should vote for players ive only seen on highlight footage and briefly as a child..
Brudzinski i can only remember him playing for the `Phins, again due to my age and i have always hated the `Phins even tho i have greatly admired many players they have had over the years. he always seemed to be a good player but never really got the accolades....tho the 80`s were a golden era for OLB`s so i guess its understandable... maybe today he would have been a lot more decorated.
Nolan Cromwell i am old enough to remember but just like with Youngblood still too young to be a creditable evaluator of his play.
Gandy/Bruce....Ike is a legend ....Gandy a good lineman whose had a long career but although i thought he was good with us..he wasnt with us for long so even with Ike putting more than his share into the duo`s career with us..give him a pass..
E.D & Ellard or Holt & Bly it comes down to for me...
Holt & Bly great players in their younger days..and both slightly overshadowed,by who else played at the position with them for the Rams...both players played great parts in helping us get our only Lombardi trophy and although i think Faulk was the the main ingredient that helped us win that...who knows..perhaps if we hadnt drafted Holt & Bly or they didnt contribute at vital times during the season as they did,we wouldnt have got to the big one..let along win it.
E.D. & Ellard
drafted the year i became a Rams fan ..they not exactly the reason i became a Rams fan but they the reason i fell so deeply inlove with the Rampaging horns especially E.D....what can you say.. those funky goggles and the unforgettable running style...can still see E.D. galloping away from defenders again and again...my sister had black beauty to watch back then and i had E.D. i reckon i had the best runner to watch and my own black beauty...was heartbroken when he left for the Colts,i was 11 at the time and boy did i cry, moan & wail!!!
i dont think ive loved any sports star as much as i did E.D...not even Majic Johnson could topple him in my young pre-teen heart...nor the incredibly beautiful and super cool Daisy Duke.
Ellard was great too as everyone knows who were around back then or has seen old footage of him since...but you could pair E.D with Jessie James( the Player not the outlaw...tho you could say he was a player and an outlaw..haha) and i would give them my vote..i can see how some might vote for the others instead..but for me and in my time zone as a fan its E.D & Ellard.
what a sweet year `99 was.. Rams became the best team in the world and E.D gets enshrined in Canton. :)
id like to give an honourable mention to the `91 duo of Todd Lyght & Roman Phifer...two personal favorites of mine taken in the same draft.
Name one player besides Jack Youngblood that was tough enough to play on a broken leg and fierce enough to play well on that broken leg. You can't.
Wow, hard to NOT vote Gabriel/Olsen.
all of these are great drafts if only we had this kind of talent in our drafts the last 7 years. i think its holt/Bly beacuse out of the others they are the only one's who won a super bowl.
hopefully smith/Laurnitus will be on this list one day!!!!!!
While none of these twosomes won a SB for us I selected Robertson and Youngblood because they established for the Rams defense a dominance in our division throughout the '70's that lasted for a decade. Dickerson and Ellard were close too, but Dickerson through all his talent was never able to take us to the promised land.
Go Rams!
Holt and Bly, Im only 13 so the rest dont know that much, except for Dickerson
