eagles acquire LB demeco ryans for a fourth round pick
If Ryans is healthy, that sounds like an unmitigated steal to me.

Re: eagles acquire LB demeco ryans for a fourth round pick
They swapped 3rd's with the Texans (dropped 12 spots), and gave up their 4th rounder. Seems like a great deal to me. You get a pro bowl quality proven MLB for a 4th rounder.

Re: eagles acquire LB demeco ryans for a fourth round pick
Ryans missed most of 2010 and his numbers were way down in 2011, but if he can regain his early form, he'll be a good addition for them.

Re: eagles acquire LB demeco ryans for a fourth round pick
He missed 2010 due to a torn achilles, which is the only risk in the trade. His numbers were only down because
1) He didn't fit the 3-4 SLB position in Wade Philips' system
2) The Texans have Connor Barwin, Brian Cushing, Brooks Reed, and even Mario Williams for a little bit at LB, of course his stats will take a huge hit.
At the end of the day its a fantastic grab for the Eagles.

I couldn't believe it when I read about it! I suppose the Texans feel comfortable enough to go with what they have, although he was the leader of that D and should have demanded much more for him. I wonder if they're targeting a few linebackers in the draft to fill the void left by both Ryans and Williams...

Re: eagles acquire LB demeco ryans for a fourth round pick
I guess I really have no clue how NFL gms value players and draft picks. I mean Brandon Marshall for 2 3's and now Demeco for a 4th? Seems like we should be able to acquire Calvin Johnson for our 2nd round pick

Yup, the NFL's kinda twisted. I'm not sure why draft picks are so overvalued. You're giving up a proven commodity for a 4th round pick. Even if it was a 2nd, theres no guarantee of them panning out, forget about a 4th. Whats the chance they pan out to be a pro bowler? 2%?

Re: eagles acquire LB demeco ryans for a fourth round pick
One can only assume that the Texans must have already lost faith in him whether because of scheme or injury or something else. By the time you're willing to part with a guy for a fourth rounder, you're pretty much just trying to get any value out of him.

Re: eagles acquire LB demeco ryans for a fourth round pick
Ryans is signed for four more years and has an average salary of $6.5 million over that span. That's a lot for Houston to pay for a guy that isn't a great fit in their new defensive scheme. After the Texans simply allowed Mario Williams to hit free agency and then cut Eric Winston, nothing they do surprises me at this point.

Re: eagles acquire LB demeco ryans for a fourth round pick
Winston was their RT, but I agree with your point. They also lost a starting interior lineman in Mike Brisiel, who was a solid player on the inside. That said, they feel they have a replacement on the roster for Ryan in 2010 fourth-round pick Darryl Sharpton and one for Brisiel in 2009 third-round pick Antoine Caldwell. We'll have to see if Houston has successfully joined the ranks of those NFL franchises able to replace talent with home-grown picks.

This right here gives me hope for trading for a WR. Time and time again players are unexpectedly on the trading block. Hope theres a WR out there that Fisher and Snead can acquire.

In the base defense Ryans played inside and that's where he excelled early in his career.
What I don't get is why Curtis Lofton is still available.
