The Edge??
Curious about the clan's thoughts on going after E.James. I dont want to break the bank, but he looked great last year playing in a limited role.
Do you think we have the $ to sign him?
Do you think he would be willing to be a backup?
Does he have any character issues? (i am not aware of any)

Re: The Edge??
1) Hard to say since we don't know how much he is asking for .. That said, I'd rather see us spend those dollars on a veteran wideout .. Anybody know what it would take to sign Marvin Harrison? Billy has stated emphatically that he wants the team to get younger. We are plenty young at wideout, and a seasoned vet wr could mentor the youngsters ...
2) At this stage in EJ's career, he'd do well to embrace a backup role .. Will he? I guess that depends on how long he wants to play in the NFL.
3) I've never heard of any character issues with Edge, but I really don't know much about him in that area.

Re: The Edge??
As far as character issues, I cannot testify to that either. As for going after him, I don't think we will. The only scenario I can picture us going for is more depth on the defensive line, and then going into next season.
I think the coaches put us where they wanted us to be, and I think this is the team we are going to war with.
I think we are better off this season at RB than people make us out to be. Aside from the steam-train Steven Jackson, we have alot of guys on our roster who are in their "do-or-die" season. Pittman, Leonard and Co. are all hitting that 3-4 year mark, and thus, the end of the contracts. This is the put up or shut up season, and for alot of them, it could mean the difference between maintaining a career in the NFL and being a box boy (and not the Kurt Warner kind). This usually motivates guys, and sometimes brings out some unfound talent.
If they know this could be it, they should be striving to succeed, and may be better than we thought. We won't know until it happens, but we have enough depth at RB to not be overly concerned at this point.

Edgerrin james is 30 going on 31 in July I 'm not so sure that this team is after guys who are old or getting old.

If we were a team on the verge of going deep in the playoffs, then yes. Since we are rebuilding, then no.

Re: The Edge??
My impression of James' story last year was that he lost his spot to Hightower early on because he had lost speed/burst and that he recovered it because of his experienced skill at/willingness to pick up the blitz.
I'd rather see us pick up another decent quality true FB to protect against the hole/problems created by the Kreider bust @ FB last year repeating itself if Karney goes down.Last edited by Azul e Oro; -04-29-2009 at 02:29 PM.

Re: The Edge??
i agree with that and another Centre...both are specialist positions but often get neglected.
if either Karney or Brown go down without capable players to step into their shoes then we end up scratching around for anybody and end up with another Leckey or Owens on our hands....or even worse..both!!!
we dont need another RB more than we need depth at other positions...it`s commonly agreed that Jax production will be improved with a proper FB & Centre etc...is no reason to believe the likes of Leonard,Pittman & Darby`s won`t aswell...and then there`s the rookie to add into the mix.

Re: The Edge??
This thread should probably be merged with jbell's....
But, I think the Rams are going to pass on this fellow. Five HB's in the stable and a freshly signed FB means that we're done with the backfield for this year.

Re: The Edge??
He thinks he can still start. THat cant happen for us. Not the right guy for us. I would rather see that earl campbell guy we picked in the 7th round get a shot first.
