Fans Fine With Apathetic Approach? Sure, FOR NOW

To those fans who seem to think the Rams, with the worst record over 10 years in the NFL, are the "smart ones" while the rest of the league, even cap strapped teams, are signing top free agents to long deals with big guarantees. How exactly do the Rams "win" in this scenario the next two years? really lucky mid round and late draft picks? No injuries at all?

John Elway must REALLY be a raving maniac then, as he again makes sure his team is the top contender for the Championship .

Those guys in SF and Seattle also nuts I guess.

The New England way doesn't work anymore. You can't just make great draft trades and expect to stay the best of the best, even if you have Tom Brady carrying the team.

Seattle made major moves last year, and so did the Niners in 2012 and last year. So has Denver.

So now they look for "bargains"

Here is a list of bargains at just two positions they need players NOW, OL and DB

    Since 2002.

    OL
    F. Garcia
    H. Irwin
    G. Williams
    D. Wohlabaugh
    C. Dishman
    Todd Steussie
    Adam Goldberg
    Rex Tucker

    DB
    K. Herring
    J. Sehorn
    F. Weary
    A. Edwards
    Micael Hawthorne
    Corey Chavous
    Fakhir Brown
    Rod Hood
    Al Harris
    Rickey manning Jr
    Craig Dahl
    Kevin Dockery
    Michael Lewis.

That's 21 guys, and even if they made average $1.5 million, that' over $30 million each year they were here spent on bodies, who helped win nothing. And that's just TWO units.

Should fans be satisfied to see more guys like that, more guys like Rodney McLeod starting as rookies?

Like with him, idiot rose colored glasses types will think the guy has "potential" when really he is all they got, and he is what he is, mediocre with a low ceiling.

They are plugging holes in a leaking ship with gum, and going out to fight the sixth fleet in the NFC West.

But fans seem Ok with just being "fiscally" conscious.

Good luck WINNING with that philosophy.

And when it happens don't you guys agreeing with this "plan" go nuts on the team.
You were OK with it happening after all.

It's a short window to win, and the Rams are shooting for 2016 now.

That's when key guys like the Longs and Laurinaitis are gonna start showing age.

But yea, I'm the one going nuts because I see a fundimental change in the Rams philosophy, RIGHT when they just need to sign one or two TOP FA in a crop rich where they need help with VETERAN starters, especially DB

You guys may be Ok for the Rams to be $10 million UNDER the cap in September, and $30 million next year, and spend nothing on any starting caliber FA.

I am not, because it smacks of "hoping" you get lucky, rather than really building a team, because it's way cheaper. If it doesn't work, at lest you made a bigger wad of cash, if you are a "mid level" multi-billionaire like Kroenke.

This plan is coming from him, with a no spend policy handcuffing the GM and coach.

OK, we signed Jared Cook and Jake Long last year, arguably the best free agents at their positions. What were the results?

I'm not advocating we stay silent throughout the FA period, but spending big $ is no guarantee of anything.

    Go Rams!

I only go back the last two years, that's all Kroenke can be held responsible for. Over the last two year the Rams have been one of the biggest players in free agency and in the draft. This year they gave the fans a heads up that free agency this year could be soft for us, that said the draft will be huge having two very high first round picks.

So this is all a Stan Kroenke conspiracy to sabotage his own team, and pocket a few million bucks?

Barry instead of *****ing up a storm in thread after thread, tell us what should be done? Should we have signed Jarius Byrd for 9 mil a year leaving us with only 7 million under the cap. I mean give us what you think should have been done with the salary cap we have. The Broncos are one or two players form a Superbowl Championship. The Rams are one or two players from even being a playoff contender. So please give us your plan and quit your damn pissing and moaning.

Either we keep it civil, or it gets closed. As I tell my fourth graders, make a good choice.

You might want to check with Washington on how spending sprees featuring big name FAs works out for a team.

Were all disappointed in how FA has gone down so far for the Rams, but it hasn't been through a lack of effort on the Rams part. The Rams were outbid on Verner, Ward, and Byrd, and with the ridiculous contracts teams were giving our own FA's (Saffold, Williams) there was no way they were returning to St. Louis. The Rams are building for the long haul, and with some smart drafting and key FA signings the Rams will eventually put themselves in position to win, just like the Seahawks did 3 or 4 years ago.

We're starting to become a lot like Arsenal FC, the only difference is we benefit from the salary cap. I'm fine with this approach as we'll find success in the long run if we draft well and pick up the scraps at FA (Jo-Lonn Dunbar, Rocky McIntosh, and Joe Barksdale) and get good mileage out of them.

Don't even like this title. Apathetic means they don't care about it and showed no emotion about it. The Rams said before free agency their plan for 2014 and the future didn't involve spending money this off season on big name free agents. It was the organizations plan to do this. Not for a lack of caring but for a game plan that none of us on this forum are a party to.

Arsenal is tied for 2nd in the PL if we're starting to be like them I'm ok with that.

I meant from a business standpoint, pardon the ambiguity

although I'm impressed we managed to pull off 2nd place with the 5th or is it 6th highest payroll. Hope Julian Draxler is taken for consideration this summer.
