Florida State OLB Lawrence Timmons declares for NFL Draft

Projected as one of the top OLB candidates in 2008, Timmons played on the strong side behind Ernie Sims for Florida State in 2005. As a starter this season, he's made 74 tackles, 13 solo tackles for loss, five sacks, six passes defended, one INT return for a TD, one fumble return for a TD, and blocked two kicks. Right now, he looks to be the #2 OLB prospect behind Posluszny, but could surpass him with a strong combine.

What do you think of him? He sounds great, but where is he draft wise, 2nd round pick, 1st? Should we pursue him?

Late first round pick right now, though I expect him to have a good combine that could improve his stock. He has everything you look for as an outside linebacker and would be a great fit on the strong side, especially if he bulks up a bit. The only big knock against him IMO is experience because this is his first year as a starter. He's hired Drew "Next Question" Rosenhaus to represent him.

Timmons is the guy I owld love to see the Rams get he is a Florida St. LB which means he is big fast and mean.

Hard to take him at 13 though. Depends on how his workouts go, I guess.

tommy polley was a florida state linebacker as well. dont get me wrong, i am not knocking fla state, but picking at 13, i would be shocked if we took an outside guy. if we take a linebacker, ie willis, my bet is that we are doing so to move spoon back outside.

I could see the Rams trading down in the draft and grabbing Timmons as the depth at LB and DT is huge and players will be available later in the draft.

I could see Simmons moving into top 20 contention if he worksout well.

I agree, and I think if he comes into the combine and shows off his amazing athletic ability, there's no reason he couldn't have an Ernie Sims-like rise in stock that could make him a serious option @ 13. Just hesitant to say anything until it actually happens.
